Occasional kinect issues

I know this is not a new issue but I just wanted to state one of the more frustrating issues with my kinect. This is something that MS should try and address for better sales numbers. Let me first say that myself and my wife love our Xbox one, and I am so
glad that I got it with the kinect. It usually works great and we use the voice features all the time. My issue is that when ever I have company over and they want to see the voice commands in person, I end up standing in front of my tv screaming like a dodo
with no response. With just one extra person in the room it will rarely work. I end up always with the same line; "it never fails when it's just me and my wife in the room". I'm sure they must be thinking "Im sure it works great ". The big issue is that
when these guest leave and are in another circle where the Xbox is mentioned, I am sure they will chime in, saying that they have seen one at a friends but the voice commands never work. The sad part is that the commands work 95% of the time. It's only fails
when I try and use it in front of potential customers.

I think those of us who just want to game, navigate the UI with the controller (without Kinect), and watch an occasional movie are going to love the Xbox One, with minimal issues and little to complain about.

I have the same issue sometimes... Especially if you are sitting close to the person, say side by side on the couch. I take it since the kinect focuses on the controller to triangulate the sound with multiple people in frame, it might have a hard time picking
you up. but yeah I tried to show off the kinect to a friend last holiday season... total epic fail.... he leaves... worked perfectly... was kind of funny

 

It uses the controller to triangulate positions? I only ask because most of the time my controller is turned off in these scenarios. Could that be making the issue worse?

 

This is an interesting topic, considering I've gone through the exact same scenario. Can having multiple people in the room (even if they're not talking) make a difference? That's certainly something worth thinking about, IMO...

 

I was forza last night doing challenge and had some friends round it wouldnt for the life of me respond to xbox record that after they left worked perfectly

 

Unfortunately I don't have these problems but I don't use voice commands. I use my Kinect for gaming but since there's like 3 Kinect games on the One, it obviously doesn't get a lot of use.

 

It's good to know that it's not just me. If I had been to a friends house where he was trying to show me the voice control and it didn't work, prior to purchasing my x1. I probably would have gotten one without the kinect. I used to be frustrated with the
"xbox on" command which never worked. In a previous update, MS fixed that and now it works almost 100% of the time, so I assume they could probably fix this issue as well.

I have had no issues with showing it off to guests..

They even get the VC's to work well..

My oldest sons friends really dig it too..

Not always on the first try but they do get them to work ..Usually after i tell them to just slow down their speech and talk normal ..

 

well the kinect does recognize who is who... and who would be holding a controller.... My thought, and i could be wrong is if you are sitting next to someone and holding the controller... it may think it is not you issuing the commands so it does not listen...
TBH, I am not sure.. I just know there have been a few times where the kinect was being an asole in front of my friends

 

Neither of mine work as they should if there's any background noise, doesn't matter who's holding the controller or if a controller is on at all.

Also find if the kids are running round playing they can inadvertently trigger commands as I play.

Just tell everyone to shut up and stop moving then issue your command, works for me.
