Obtaining my old gamer tag , but having major issues

I had an original gamer tag a while back, a couple years before this one. When i migrated over to the xbox 360 from the xbox one, I could not keep my gamer tag because it was affiliated with a work email address for an employer i didn't work for any longer.

Well recently, I have been in dire need of changing this gamer tag ( which pains me because i have had it for so long ) due to some not so nice people acting very immature and offfensive, as well as trying to hack my account. So i attempted to change it
back to my old screen name, and the screen name is no longer active (obviously) when i searched it up ....Just wanted to make sure someone else hadn't claimed it . I did contact xbox support years back and was told back in 2011 or 2012 , that the screen name
would be available to be taken again eventually.

Well when i went to make it offical , i typed in the sn, and it just keeps bringing me back to the main screen where it gives you the option of choosing a random sn, or making your own....over and over again. it doesnt say it is "reserved" or "taken"....just
keeps returning me to that screen.

I contacted online support and the agent made a case but also told me to post a thread here to see if someone could help me....so thats what i am doing. PLease, any help would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your replies.

Gamer profile issue

I have a major issue with my gamer tag, it looks like it has privacy settings of a child. Wont let me play online :-( . Anybody got any solutions, at my wits end

 

Having major issues.

Try to delete your profile (profile only),
clear system cache (3 times), download your profile again.

See if the above works.

 

I'm sorry but you were misinformed by phone support. There is nothing that anyone on these forums can do to help in this situation.

The best that we can offer is to contact your old employer and see if they can temporarily reinstate your old email address so you can get access to the old tag and then change the email for it.

However, if you choose to do that your gamerscore and DLC cannot be transferred from one account to the other.

 

Online support and phone support are all directing me back to the forums . I am getting very frustrated. I am on the phone right now and they are saying this can be addressed by the forum moderators and assistance. I just want my old screen name back.
I didn't lose it though any fault of my own, and I should not have to reset this account I just want to change this gamer tag to my previous one. Ugh...

 

I'm very sorry that they're giving you the runaround. However, barring a few exceptions, these forums are populated solely by gamers such as yourself who have no authority to add or release old gamertags.

The exceptions I mentioned are people who do work for Xbox but will still not be able to help with this. What you are requesting lies solely with phone support.
