    The chances of the console's software being altered is pretty high.

    As ambassadors, we do not know why the console is banned, and we have no power over it.

    The only group who can change anything on a Ban are the Policy Enforcement Team, which are over in forum #09 -

    forums.xbox.com/.../41.aspx

    However, they are unlikely to do anything as you have knowingly bought a console that has been banned from online activities

    no but they do own the service and decides what can and cannot be done on it. so if somebody does something bad enough on the service they can A ban your account or B ban your console. you can still use the console you just will never be able to get to
    use it online I know your mad but again take it up with your cousin unless he thought if he gave it to you you would be able to un ban it but it is simply NOT possible.

    Home is correct once a console is banned there is no reversal even if the previous owner did whatever was worthy enough of a console ban. you will have to get a different console sorry.

    well how is MS to know who did what on the console to get it banned. it is not MS fault your cousin did what he did, but no matter what you say or do you will not get that console unbanned.
