    NXOE won't format my SSD.

Hey all, just bought the Seagate 2tb Game Drive for my Xbox One, upon plugging it in however, it assigns it as a Music, Pictures and Video storage device and I can't find how to change it to game storage. All I can do is view the (empty) device, trying to
press the start button on all the options just brings up a help option that's done anything but.

The drive is definitely set to NTFS, I'm using a USB 3.0 cable. I've tried ressetting to factory defaults, hoping it would revert me to the old OS, yet all I got for my time was all of my save data deleted. I've also tried an offline system update but the
console gives me an error within 5 secs of trying.

In short I'm hoping someone can either tell me what *** backward route through the options MS expect you to take in order to find the one for changing the devices purpose, or at least how to get back onto the old OS temporarily where I know how to do it.

Thanks in advance, and apologies if this is in the wrong thread.

    :)

  2. XBOX ONE Formatted my External SSD with my only videos of my baby!

    Hi,

My XBOX ONE Formatted my External SSD when I plugged in my SSD to look at some videos of my baby. I came back later and the SSD was automatically formatted! I've lost everything from that 1st year of my babies life and i'm devastated!

Is there ANY ANY ANY way of retrieving the lost data?

Surely to Christ you need to ask to format a drive, and then ask for confirmation before this happens or am I fricken crazy?

    Please please please help.

Putting a SSD inside a fat Xbox 360 hard drive enclosure

If I was to put a M.2 SSD inside a M.2 SSD enclosure and then format it as a USB storage device, would it violate the Terms of Service? I don't think so. As long as it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, it will work on any Xbox console.

Hello, MrRyanFTW! The settings for storage devices is in the same location as the previous OS. Settings > System > Storage. From there you can format the drive.

Problem solved! McShoop I'd been trying your suggestion and there simply wasn't an option for formatting the drive. I think it had something to do with it already being NTFS however, as I plugged the drive into my laptop and reformatted it to ExFAT instead,
plugged it back into the Xbox and behold! It gave me the same *** about being a media storage device, yet when I once again tried Settings > System > Storage, it actually gave me the option of formatting for Games & Apps.

TL;DR Pre-format your drive all wrong and just let the Xbox correct it for you, pre-formatting to NTFS seems to remove the format option altogether.

Tried it McShoop and it simply didn't have any options for formatting at all.

I have however, found a workaround and it's pretty *** simple:

Plug the drive into a PC and format it to something other than NTFS, then when you plug it into the console and it pops up with "Media Storage Device Ready!" you'll be able to follow those directions (Settings > System > Storage.) and the "Format for Games
& Apps" option will magically appear!

As to the why of all this? Not a clue! My only theory is that with the drive being pre-formatted to NTFS, the Xbox thinks it's already a Games & Apps drive and doesn't bother giving you the option to make it one, despite having already detected it as a media
    storage drive.

Tried it McShoop and the option for formatting simply doesn't appear.

However I've solved the issue, for whatever reason using my PC to change the file system to ExFAT was the solution. Next time I connected it to my console, it detected it as being a media device again, yet when I went Settings > System > Storage it actually
gave me the option of formatting it to be a Games & Apps drive.

MrRyanFTW, Hello my user name is pSyam (sam). Hey how would you rate that ssd that you got from seagate? I've heard a lot of bad things about seagate and their moving parts failing, And of course the ssd doesn't have moving parts so what do you think?

I know Seagate drives get a bad rap but I have had great success using them for a lot of years. I guess I am just one of the lucky ones.
