  1. NVMe as external storage issues

I bought a 1TB NVMe Samsung drive which came with NVMe bridge to USB type C and an adapter to convert to USB type A, all is usb 3.0 and up compatible. The drive works well in my surface go as I am getting over 460 in read and write benchmarks. The issue I am having is when ever I hook it up to the series s and format the drive it causes the series s to sometimes see the drive but when I try to access content it’s like the drive freezes. Another thing to note is that if I restart the console with the drive in it the console won’t boot just a black screen until I plug out the drive it automatically restarts normally. What’s seems to be the issue?

    :)

    NVMe as external storage issues

    Hi,

I can only suggest changing the adaptor as it's this that is probably the cause of the issues you're experiencing.

Also, may I just point out that an NVME type drive is a little overkill for the Series consoles. These drives often have read speeds in excess of 2,500MB/s, where as the USB 3.1 USB ports on the console are limited to max 500MB/s transfer speeds. You can buy a SATA SSD with an adaptor/enclosure for cheaper that would perform just as well.

Like obsessive said it's overkill because even on pc you will.never meet the speeds that nvme has with justntp usb adapter

Nvme is mean t to be internal

With some pcs or laptops with a special slot just for it

However even if you used a nvme you cannot use it for series x or s games because you are nowhere close to the necessary speeds as it's 4.8gbps requirement which the Seagate storage card is

USB nor any external mechanical drive will ever match nvme

    Even internal ones

Because of the built in bottlenecks and nvme addresses

With usb you have the usb host then the south bridge controller then the north bridge ..

Internal drive must go to the busmaster then the pcie host then Southbridge then Northridge

Nvme sits between the north bridge and ram and cpu

Xbox series x games upgrading says that the instillation stoped

Ok what are you storing them on

If non nvme like ssd or mechanical drive rhen no it can't be installed on it

Either the xbox series x storage cards or internal nvme only

Patched or upgraded games must be stored on internal or storage card

Ir can be stored on external drives but can't run or upgrade from external

    Must be moved internallu

Seagate 2tb usb expansion hard drive series s

No you are mistaking what you need

Seagate external storage card NOT usb hdds

No hdd will ever match the nvme speedds as it's limited.by usb and game design

Nvme has direct access to cpu .gpu .and memory

You can only store it on external hdd but you cant run it from there you have to move it you internal or or Seagate or wd storage cards

You are talking about 12x the difference in speeds

    500mbps vs 4.8gbps

Why can I not launch my Xbox one games from my external hard drive, even after upgrading them from within the internal hard drive for the series s/x enhanced editions?

Upgraded versions must be played from internal or storage card

As you need nvme speeds not slow external hdds

You would have to skip the upgrades if you want to play off external hdd
