NVIDIA GeForce 940M video card offline

Hello,

I have an MSI GP70 Leopard-490 17.3" Laptop Computer. It came with two graphics cards. It was set up to use the one for basic work and when doing more demanding stuff like gaming it would automatically switch to the better card. I manually switched to the better card a number of years ago. I don't play games but I do photography so I use Lightroom and Photoshop. I got a notice from Adobe that my graphics card driver is out of date. When looking into this I saw it was running on the lower grade card. The better card, an NVIDIA GeForce 940M, says it is offline. How can I get this card back online and the card my computer will use?

First, is this happening on Windows 10 or 11?

Now, if you go to Device Manager (Press Windows key + X and select it) > Display adapters

Are you able to see this NVIDIA GeForce 940M card?

Or if you open Task manager > Show details > Performance > Are you able to see both discrete and dedicated GPU listed there?

In any case please re-install the 940M drivers from here and once installed check again:

Concerning Nvidia it is mentioned that it would work with video cards that support NVidia NVENC.

This latter includes:

Most GeForce 600 series or later
Most Quadro K series or later

My video card is Intel® UHD Graphics 620 and my dedicated graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce MX150. I already checked both my graphics card for updates and both seem to be up to date.

Your video card is below the recommended minimum and also doesn't support Directx 12 according to Nvidia's official specs.

Hey there, Jay! Sorry to see you're running into this issue! If you have an NVIDIA video card like a GeForce, please try disabling Shadow Play and let us know if that works for you.
