    So I went on websites looking for rare usernames aka 3 letters and I found one thaw was free according to gamertag.net and then to double check I went over to xboxgamertag.com and it also said it was free and when i went to put it in it added numbers onto the end of it is there anyway to just get the username and not the numbers

    I see at least 1 person with that tag already and they have the suffix so there could be more. So you will get a suffix if you try to use that tag.

    If it's adding the numbers, then the tag is in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The only way to have it without the numbers is if it truly is not in use. Outside websites are not entirely accurate when it comes to whether or not a tag is in use.

    The best way to check is through Xbox itself. Those websites are not run by Xbox so they don't have accurate information.
