    Numbers added to a unique gamertag


    I wanted to change my gamertag to something new, and I searched for like an hour to find one that wasn't taken so I didn't need the suffix, but when I go to change my gamertag it adds the numbers anyway. The new gamertag only contains latin characters
    so my understanding is that a unique gamertag shouldn't have numbers correct? Is this a known bug and is there any fix for it?

    If it added the suffix, then it is taken somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So while you may have searched for "gamertag" and it didn't show, it may actually be in use as "gamer tag".
    So things like that can effect it. There is no fix for it other than to find another gamertag that nobody else has.

    There's nothing wrong with the gamertag system. If your trying to take a gamertag like Mister Gwyther said there's many services that user gamertags it's not just XBOX LIVE. You'll need to come up with a unique gamertag or try adding numbers to the one that
    you want.

    Hi there,

    as far as I know, this is not possible, the numbers will make the Gamertag unique and are automatically generated, the Gamertag (without #0000) does not have to be unique anymore.
