Nothing Will Launch!

I used Chat Support. After spending over 40 minutes the final suggestion was factory reset. I had all my games, and because the live seems to have been flaky I was not confident I would keep all my saves.

I purchased a cheap 1 tb usb 3 Seagate HDD and plugged it in, and it took around 5 seconds to be able to use it for game storage, takes longer to name it and select install all new games here by default.

I then clicked on all the games with the options button, chose manage game and moved the entire installation to the external drive. I did this for each game and each app (that I could).

This took a while, but since it didn't work prior wasn't a huge hardship.

Once all was done, I shut down the xbox fully, removed the external drive, restarted the xbox and went to setting and reset to factory settings.

Once I had finished setup I plugged in the external drive and everything is running as normal.

Will keep updated if the problem comes back again

Hope it works for you FatPobster, but I've tried a full factory reset, seemed to cure it for about a day and then went back to the same issues, so the fact that it started working again for a while was probably just a coincidence.

same for me ...when I turn my xbox on from sleep mode nothing will open from the dashboard then I have to power it down. very annoying

I don't even use instanvt on and it happens. It happened periodically but then would finally launch games and apps etc... Though one day it would for about 24 hours so I returned it and got a new one with in store warranty with Gamestop. I've been using
my new one for about a month now and it just happened to me again this morning! So I rebooted and it worked. I think it's some stupid software error that Phil Spencer needs to fix! If it happens so badly that I gotta get a new one I'm glad I got another in
store warranty. But if it happens AGAIN after my 3rd one then that's just messed up! I will definitely get a PS4 then!

Hard reset works, but more often than not, only until you switch off and back on again, then it's back to not loading the dash or games/apps not starting.

You shouldn't.

Only other option is to put it in Energy Saving mode and hope that one day MS might admit they broke something in the last update and fix it. But them you lose all the benefits of Instant On.
