Not Your Typical Request

I'm fully aware of how to change my gamer tag on Xbox Live.

What it is that I wish to do is obtain the gamer tag from another account that has been inactive for a very long time.

I'm hoping that it will be possible as it is easier to connect with others when I do not have to include that there is a number in my gamer tag when relaying it to someone and it is easier for when someone just sees it online. It can't be mistaken as something
that it is not.

I apologize for the double post and the terrible formatting. I tried to go back and fix it, but everytime I try to edit, I get a "Bad Request - Request Too Long HTTP Error 400. The size of the request headers is too long." error. These forums really are

I'm afraid there is no way to acquire a Gamertag that is already in use by another account, until they either change their GT or Xbox decides to purge any inactive Gamertags. There is no expected time frame if or when this will happen.

Damn it. The account has been inactive for at least 8 years.

When does Microsoft deem an account inactive long enough to warrant that "purge" of inactive gamer tags?

 

Microsoft has done some cleanings of accounts inactive for more than 5 years in the past. Be aware though that an account may be inactive on the Xbox but used for other services since MS accounts can be used almost everywhere in MS ecosystem.
