Not very rewarding to need gold to play owned games

I've had almost every console since the sega Genesis, including bit not limited to, now every generation xbox. The whole point of the games with gold released on the Xbox 360 was a great idea and is one of the only reasons i stayed up to date on my gold,
i think it's ludicrous that all these games I've collected are now unplayable unless i have gold. Soooooo, Microsoft, you gaveme a game BECAUSE i had gold, now your saying "thanks for buying gold, but now you have to keep it on always or you can't play many
of your games." I've put thousands and thousands of dollars into your systems accessories ect. But that's not enough. Now you want to charge me for my so called reward as a customer.

You need to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play online. The 'online axxess' code simply unlocks the online part of the game. Companies have been doing this to kill the pre-owned market.

 

Hey buddy, the Xbox 360 games should still be playable even without your gold sub, you might need to do a license transfer if you've switched consoles since originally downloading them. If you're referring the Xbox One games then disregard what I've said.

this is what gamers with the loudest voices wanted, back with the 360 you owned them, so even if your Gold ran out, you still had access, but they were bottom shelf games. Xbox was getting beaten up for that, while PS was offering better games, but required
PS+ in order to play them.

you can't pin this on MS just because they were doing what they thought people wanted.

As a business point of view it makes perfect sense.

 

Of course you need to keep gold to play the games given away to you at no extra cost. Why would they let a cheapskate (not you OP, but in general) buy gold for €6.99 for a month, get 4 games and stop paying gold. There's no incentive to keep gold. This way
MS is keeping people paying. It's a good business move on their part.

Talk about changing directions. And he did not even ask about a car. You must really need to sell it.

As for the GwG I have seen some confusion. I know with the 360 you could play them without having Gold. But I am thinking they changed that with the One. Now you must keep Gold to play the games. Really, overall the GwG is just a bonus. Not really a
reason to buy Gold, IMO. The games can be good but they are generally older games that you can find cheap anyway. Still not a bad deal. I just know I would not pay for the service just to keep some old games active.

more issues this gen with Live. Seems issues pop up more often. Just generally social feature issues like chat, Live connection issues, and things like that. Not saying it is bad but is more prominent with the One for sure. But if it is true that GwG is
the reason to keep Gold now maybe priorities have shifted away from the great online features.

Wow, I never really checked the uservoice site. But I am wondering why they would want this. The GwG games are older. Even now. And on 360, before the Xbox One was even revealed there was plenty of good games given. Just like now, there was lower tier
games. But there was also top tier games as well. Of course not all top tier or lower tier games where bad/good. But they are not now either. I just cannot imagine saying: "Please change GwG to require that you stay active to use the games you already
received as part of the program." Then again, I could see some feeling "cheated" if an previous Gold owner got to keep past GwG games that were given while they were Gold.

And I can fully understand MS going this route. It is just another incentive to keep people paying. But I fully hope it is not a main focus and that new features and service improvements are the core and major focus.

 

^ If memory serves, it was Sony who started the free games with a paid subscription to PS serveces as a way to help generate $ at a time when Sony itself was needing to generate some dough/capital.

Befor that OLMP was free.

Then, via these forums etc, Xbox gamers put out the word amd soon afterwards. GwG begun with a single game per month, then 2, and now 4... If you happen to own both the X1 and 360.

The only reason I am currently Gold is for the games... but now that I know what free actually means to MS, I will not be subscribing again... Umm.... unless policies changes are made.
