Did the packaging appear to be factory sealed when you purchased it? If it wasn't , then my initial thought is that someone else had returned the wrong controller in the packaging that you received and then the store just resold it without checking the
item before restocking. Not that mistakes don't happen in manufacturing, but it would be a highly improbable situation that Microsoft made the mistake. The only thing that you can do to address this further is to contact the retailer and hope that they are
willing to do the right thing and take care of your issue. How long ago did you purchase the controller? They may not want to be taking care of it if it is past the allowable return date. Best of luck in getting your issue resolved.

You have to deal with the retailer on this sorry for your frustration. In the future verify what is in the box from that retailer before you leave the store or store parking lot.

Try getting in touch with the corporate customer service they may be willing to help when the local store will not.
