So I have been an x box customer since the original x box. Recently while sleep I woke up to my dogs barking like crazy, I jump up and notice that my x box has caught fire. Luckily I jumped up with enough time to smother it before it spread but this literally could have burned down my house. I call customer service the next day, tell an agent that I'll still shaken up but I tell them my experience. Send several of pictures and am told I will get a call back in 2 days.... A week goes by and no call, I reach back out to them only to get told to send more pictures in. Another week goes by and I call up, they tell me it's best for me to respond to the email as I've still not been called back. After another week I get an email telling me that they will need 250 dollars to examine the x box and if it's a defect, they might discuss a refund. Is it me or is this absurd? No one called to check in on a life threatening issue, they didn't offer to examine the x box right away, they didn't offer any compensation, they also kept billing me for x box live and game pass.... I miss gaming with my friends but after this incident I'm not sure Microsoft values me as a customer

Here is some guidelines on recalls and what initiates a recall for fire hazards

As you can see even suscpision of fire can incite a recall

So yes companies do take it seriously

Did you get an electrician or firemarshell report ? Because you should really have a report incase it wasn't the console and you wouldn't want other things .to catch fire in which case you need to address it with your house insurance and get it repaired

Also they have to cover the basis legally

For 2 reasons one if it is what you say it is and they have to repair and refund you the money for both the console.And the examination

This is to discourage people from forcing a multi billion dollar recall just for 200 bucks

2 and this is the big one

Mandatory worldwide recall

Even suspicious of a fire will force a worldwide recall

They recalled for less

Kid watches toys etc have.been recalled even for.suspicion of danger and fire is a big one

So yes they need absolute proof it was the console not wiring or lightning

That would be FCC or voluntary either way you are talking billions
