    I have never changed gamertags but it wont allow me to change it for free.

    Sorry to hear it. When you created your account it would have come up with a random gamertag name at which point you would have had the option to change the tag to what it is now. That constitutes the free change.

    You're allowed to change your Xbox gamertag once for free. If you're trying to change your gamertag for a second time, You'll have to pay for the gamertag change.

    I changed my gamertag once when I created my Xbox account but then, I decided to change it again and I had to pay around $10 I believe.

    Hey there,

    A few months ago there was an update that no longer allowed people who sign up for xbox live for the first time to choose a gamertag. Now when someone signs up they are given a random gamertag and are allowed to change it once for free. Those that have already
    had a gamertag are not allowed to change it for free since you were given the chance to choose your unique gamertag at registration.

    Hello! The added numbers to your gamertag (Example: #0004) is due to the new gamertag system that Xbox has recently added, which allows people to use already used gamertags. Secondly, unless you haven't used up your free gamertag change (With the new system,
    you're given a free gamertag change), the only way to change it is to pay for the gamertag change.
