Not able to download or install games after update

I had to post on here, as I could not see anything similar explaining this fix.

After the day or so of grief I have had with this. We got there in the end.

XBOX one S. Latest update. (Nov 2017)

Updated the store app, all games then failed to download, install or even appear in the queue.

We got an xbox one S less than 3 months ago. All was OK until recently (28th Nov 2017) when we turn it on, it wants to update etc. So you do that.

Once complete we tried to download an already purchased game and it just would not. We tried to download a new free game, and again, nothing. we did many different ways and things, and always the same thing. (although sometimes it would not even connect
to the store)

When I logged on to my standard Xbox one, with same profiles it was all working as expected. no issues. So was defiantly xbox one S issue. not profile / gamer tag etc.

Went on to Xbox live chat.. where we have to go through all the stuff you would try before even contacting them, but still had to go through it all anyway. reset network, both wired and wireless, restore console back to default, wipe all data.. you name
it, we went there.

In the end the support could not help, gave us a ref number so we could return it to the store and get a replacement. (You need this ref, or stores wont accept a return if more than 30 days)

Anyway, off we go, get a brand spanking new one, connect it up, do the default install and set up etc, and guess what, the same ****ing thing!

On to xbox chat again, to the least helpful and not bother to read comments person ever! Did not seem to understand that restoring a brand new out of the box console would not work, as its brand new, and its only just updated to latest when you plug it in.
so nothing to restore.. but we do it anyway. After 2 hours of that person not reading / understanding our comments I separately (on another pc)requested a call back and got one within a min or so.

I explained to this guy (Jack) my issues, went through all we had been through, gave the ref number and he actually read and understood. I explained I am a network engineer, I did a TCP dump (wireshark), and I could see Akamai servers not responding correctly
(missing segment, not able to reassemble packet) I knew this was not my ISP as it worked on my other xbox.

I was not happy about it at first, but he wanted me to make a mobile hotspot, connect my xbox to that, and see if that worked. Which it did. **NOTE: ** if you do this, get ready to cancel quickly or you mobile data usage will get zapped.

After a few min of staying connected on mobile hostspot (not downloading anything now) we returned the wireless / LAN and it was fine.

Not really sure what that means, I guess mobile connectivity fragments packets better and it could install a licence key or auth code (I have no idea, I'm just guessing) but hey, who care when it works?

I did ask if it was any particular ISP but it seems its not just one. I was also told it seems to be only Xbox one S and Xbox one X that have this issue.

Had to post this, as nothing else I have read looks or appears to be the same issue. And I would not wish that unhelpful, not able / refusal to read xbox support person on anyone else. (although just that one, as the call back was
good, and the original one was ok.., although having trouble understanding the issues.. which is fair enough, as its not a simple one)

Hopefully this will save you any pain.. or damage when you throw you console at the wall out of frustration.

At this time its still downloading the games we had on the original one.. so that will take most of the day. I will update this post if it does not install them.

in brief:

disable wireless,

make a mobile hostspot with phone.

connect xbox to that.

initiate download.. cancel before you lose all data / costs.

give it a few mins of staying on mobile data, (just connected, not downloading etc)

after a few mins, connect to LAN (wired or wireless) again.

reboot.

once back on / up, do the same download / store install again and it should work now.

Game Installation

Have you tried installing the game only, without the update? Try that, you should be able to download the update after the game installs.

 

Battlefield 3 not currently available?

Im not able to purchase or download the game. I can install the updates and map packs, but not the game. Anyone else having this issue?
