The issue is that the Marketplace is not the same system as the One Store, which means it has different requirements, which means "that's just the way it is". It is listed here on this
support article on 360 purchases. The only troubleshooting that we currently have for your situation is to either add a credit/debit card, or try it on an Xbox 360. We cannot work around this requirement because that is just
the requirements of the 360 Marketplace.

There is no localized version of this page at this time. We are currently working on getting this page localized, and the only version right now is the US version that I have linked to above.

I'm having a similar issue, when I try to download a Xbox 360 free game through the Xbox One, it says I "need to complete the action through my xbox", so I'm not able to get them.

First of all, we should not have to provide payment information to download a free game. If I decided to go to the store to buy an Xbox Live Gold subscription, then that is my choice not to provide microsoft my credit card info. Second, if getting Gold
gives you access to free games then providing credit card info should not be a requirement if the only requirement is to have Gold. Third, many people have gotten rid of the 360 in favor of the One, so downloading the free games is not an option for most
people. If microsoft wants to keep people, then give them the ease of access. We should not have to go through the same [tag:justdealwithit] mess or the "there's an offline machine, It,s called the 360" crap. This got microsoft in trouble in the first place
and it caused people to go to Sony. If the credit card restriction is removed then microsoft will save themselves a huge legal debaucle if and when their system is compromised and credit card info is stolen.

Ummm sony nor ms has ever been compromised as far as creditcard goes

Nor has there ever been a compromised xbox live

As per the requirements of live there is no work around

If you want the free 360 games then you have to follow the rules and requirements

Free games are a perk and only if you meet the requirements this is the same with psn

You must have an active membership on psn every service has different requirements

Unlike xbox you don't need an active membership for 360 games after you get the games

Only whe. You make the purchase

And don't go off topic by turning it into a console war it is against the rules of forums

Bloggers misunderstood what it meant

The ability to sell and trade digital games the always on allowed you to not have the disk . in the drive

Not to mention you could still sell your disk based games your had to unlink it from your account so you wouldn't be sharing the disk without the whole neighbourhood for a free game

I have exactly the sane issue all free games work except the xbox 360 ones which say I dont have a valid payment even though I do both paypall and debit card ...

Try again from xbox.com and when you get to the purchase confirmation page, just press on add a new credit card and it will probably ask you to input your billing address again; do so and after that your payment method should show up, if not, just add it
there fully once again.

Doesn't work.

The whole process is extremely awkward as well.. The games don't show up on the Games with Gold view. Have to manually search for the Borderlands game.

Then the Borderlands page has a button "Show price" instead of just showing me the price immediately? What else does it think I want from the store page? But fine, clicking on the button gives me the info it's free.

Trying to "buy" it gives me the same bug as the website, saying I don't have any payment options available even though I have and even though I shouldn't need a payment option for a free store item.

(It's like going to a webshop, adding an item to your basket and having enough store credit to get it for free. Then having to give your bank details so they can bill you for €0.00)

So no, unfortunately I am unable to get my promised free video-game using the website / console even with the latest update.

The website requires payment method as it is a marketplace. Although the games are FREE, the store allows us to "purchase" them at a price of $0.00. Doing so means we need a payment method on file to "purchase" these $0.00 games. The only way to bypass having
a payment method registered is to download them straight from an Xbox 360 console.
