Not a child friendly environment, is it?

Anyone else notice that there are a LOT of people that are either using crude language, or being VERY critical of players who are either not very good at the game, or aren't doing what they think they should be?

I for one play games like this for fun, and I expect an online gaming area to be kid friendly unless otherwise noted. I have small children in my home, who sometimes play games, and almost always are around when I am playing. I don't spend a LOT of time
playing games online, but I do play online. Every once in a while, I will encounter someone who is shooting off their mouth, or is a poor sport in a game, but they are typically the minority.

On the other hand, it seems to me that this kind of behavior is running rampant in the World of Tanks game. Its so bad, that I encounter someone who is cussing or yelling at other players in at least half of the games I have played up to this point. Its
bad enough, that I am seriously considering the possibility of deleting the game and not playing it anymore. While I don't approve of this kind of behavior, having people act like that when children are playing the game, and when I have my own children within
ear shot makes the behavior almost intolerable. While I am enjoying the game emensly, I wont play it at the cost of exposing my children to that kind of language or poor sportsmanship on a regular basis.

Has anyone else been experiencing this kind of thing? Or have I simply been having a string of bad luck when it comes to the people I end up playing with?

Also, does anyone know a good way of dealing with trouble players? I've reported a few, but considering the sheer number of these people I seem to encounter, I feel like its a futile effort.

    :)

  2. Microsoft is not child friendly

Microsoft is not child friendly. Have you ever been to a Microsoft convention ? If so you might be aware that children , even accompanied by a parent and well behaved , were forced to eather go into a secluded daycare room or leave the property , & since
its microsoft policy the police working security enforce it. I find that insulting since gaming products are among microsofts highest selling, which inadvertently makes children one one of Microsofts most faithful customers. Lets talk about Xbox live briefly
. Xbox live is harmful to children for the following reasons : Xbox live is full of inappropriate user generated content such as harmful ,sexual ,or insulting gamertags, phrases in bios, images like the emblems in COD BO2, as well as adults using profanity
in game chat , and people cheating by using glitches or ilegal hacking. Hacking has become popular on xbox live and is believed to be ok and cool by young people . There are YouTube videos & websites dedicated to teaching hacking . Xbox live enforcement have
earned a reputation for being more likely to suspend someone for filing complaints than they are for one of the code of conduct violations mentioned above . They call it complaint abuse. You would think they would suspend the persons ability to file complaints
but they actually suspend the persons entire account .

I mute them (in game press back to enter map, press LB, scroll down to player and press X). I've done it a lot!

It's so bad in this game I had to mute everyone unless in a party.First game I've had to do this and I would say to everyone just mute and play the game the way you want to play and have fun!Muting everyone in game takes to long so do it in the 360 options.

I actually ended up having a talk with my wife about this last night and decided that I would only play this game when the kids are either napping, or when they are down for the night. Then on top of that, we decided to take a bit of a hard line stance
on the issue and start reporting anyone who we find particularly offensive for their language.

I tried muting them a couple of times, but I still felt that it was something that shouldn't have had to be done in the first place.

My approach has been to taking note of who was cussing or trash talking during the game (Usually my wife is writing down user names as I play.) Then once the game is over, I do the thing where I put them on my list of gamers I would rather not play with,
report their behavior, and and then move on to the next game.

It hasn't seemed to do any good so far, but we plan to take this approach for 2-3 days to see if it will help.

Its a real shame that some people have to make a hostile game environment for the rest of us. Its an enjoyable enough of a game that I would gladly keep playing it even after I 100% the game, but at the rate things are going, I'm beginning to suspect
that another day or two is all the more I'm going to tolerate.

I appreciate the reply posts guys, its nice to know that others feel the same as I do about people behaving like this in-game. Hope to see you both on the battlefield!

I will admit now that I have trash talked a couple of times in this game though I never use bad language. If I hear children on the team I'll take my headset out and just shout at my tv. I don't think kids should be put through any bad language etc in a
game but it is difficult as there are so many inconsiderate people online. About why I sometimes trash talk...I'm very competitive and when I'm playing a team based game I like the teams to actually work together as a team. I t frustrates me when players wont
help each other as my enjoyment comes from knowing that everyone will have each others backs.

An example I'll use is if I'm near a team mate who is under attack, I'll try to drive into the line of fire so they have a better chance to escape. So yeah, lack of team work is why I trash talk at times.

Its a nice gesture to shut the headset down when you hear children, but it seems to me that there are about 5 people without a headset for everyone who is actively using one. And I strongly suspect that the people who have headsets/mikes tend to be among
the older crowd for the most part.

I've never minded a little competitive chatter so long as its in good nature. But some of the people can get down right vicious. I don't think a lot of the people who have played the game for a while take into account that some of the people they are playing
with are noobs, or are just playing for fun.

Myself, I try to look out for the inexperienced people and help them along when I am able instead of getting angry at them. After all, I know that I was one of those noobs who struggled to get my tank where I wanted it or could barely center my targeting
bracket on a stationary target at one point. So I try to make a point of treating others the way I like to be treated when I'm not very good at a game, with a little help and a lot of patience. We all like to win, but it shouldn't come at the cost of someone
    not having fun.

Sorry if I sound like I'm being critical. I suspect that you arent a problem player given that you make an effort to avoid trash talking in front of people who may be upset by it. But it really upsets me to see people screaming at other players, especially
    when its a kid.

Language is only one part of my "worry." My problem is also with the trash talking and unsportsmanlike behavior with little to no regard for the children who play these games.

Is it too much to ask that people would actually obey the code of conduct that is in place for Xbox Live?

PS: While I don't play online often, I DO play a wide range of games, including war games, and I can honestly say that I have NEVER encountered the degree of inconsiderate and offensive language in a game before this. (I've spent time playing several of
the CoD games, the Halo series, and a variety of other "war" games online.)

Its a real shame that some people meed to be offensive and trash talk their team mates instead of being friendly and helpful to those around themselves.

  11. I have had my voice communication settings set to "friends only" for several years. I highly recommend doing that if you have children. No reason at all they need to hear what others are saying.

CAMAROBOY69; Thanks for the constructive feedback. You're probably right, I should look into my audio settings. For the moment, I'm just treating this game the same way I do any of my other games that include excessive language and/or subject matter: I
only play it when my children are taking a nap, are out of the house, or are down for the night.

Yes, I know it has a TEEN rating. And by having a TEEN rating, it is targeted for a TEEN audience (+13). I just think it would be nice if people could keep the language in the PG-13 range, instead of using the kind of language I expect to hear in games
like "Grand Theft Auto V" and other MATURE (R) rated games.

Well, for what its worth, I'm done with World of Tanks at least for now. Between the fact that I just 100% the game, and having enough of the poor behavior of a hand full of players, I just dont feel the need to keep playing for the time being.

The game itself, along with the large majority of the players have been a true joy to play with. The game has been a rare pleasure to play, and many of the people that I have met during the battles I have engaged in have been a lot of fun to play with.
Thank you to everyone who played in good sport and contributed to many of the good times I have experienced over the last two weeks.

For the rest of you, have a heart, remember what it was like when you first started playing games, and try to give the younger gamers around you a good, wholesome gaming experience. Take them under your wing and help them play well instead of just cussing
at them and calling them names.

Perhaps, if they add additional achievements, I'll log back in. Or for that matter, I may get the urge to do battle again some evening when the kids are in bed. Until then, keep fighting the good fight!

To those of you who have contributed to this thread: I agree with a couple of you, and I disagree with a few more, but in the end, thank you for contributing to the discussion and for keeping the tone civil in spite of all of our differences in opinion.
