None of this makes sense!?!

My wife and I don't get it. We bought an xbox one for our two boys for christmas, and I thought I was helping by setting it up the night before. When I turned it on it wanted a microsoft account, my wife had one already (this one) so we logged in with it.
It said we needed xbox live so I paid for xbox gold live and bought a downloaded game for the boys.

Before this turns into a long winded rant (I am ready to throw this thing in the street and run it over) here where we are.

Made new email for each child (why the hell do kids needs an email address to play games?!).

There are three accounts on the xbox now, wife, son 1, and son 2.

When I made the new accounts for each child, it again told me I needed to buy xbox live each time.

The boys can't play the downloaded game, the only way they can play the new game is if my wife is logged in.

I managed to find how to add people to your "family" and did it, but I have no idea what that helped/changed, I don't see any difference.

Right now, to log my wife in, you have to enter her password, the boys can now login when the camera sees them, so no need for them to type in a password.

All we want is for them to be able to turn it on and play games. I don't understand why we can't do this on a gaming console.

One more thing, got a physical game (plants vs zombies) that says they have to make an online account even to play single player or just play split screen against each other.

this has got to be tje worst gaming experiance i habe ever had, and i am a pay to play customer!! very dissatisfied, just because a kid lost he reported me and got my account banned, who gives these kids the authority to have that kind of authority, its
apauling to me that u take my money and now this!!! someone needs to contact me asap!!! i should just go back tobpy ps4!

Yea it is a pain to get it all set up correctly. Once it is set up you will probably like the system. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't make it easier for us non-hardcore gamers.

 

Make sure your wife's account has the console set as her Home console. This will allow the other accounts to access the games and gold on her account.

Plants vs. Zombies is an online only game. So it does require a subscription and connection to play.
