None of the CTIA headsets work

Hi, i have tried every headset i have and bought few to see if it works with xbox one. The original chat headset which came along with the xbox one has also stopped working. Tried everything mentioned on various blogs which included power booting, updating
the controller, checked privacy settings, etc. For a very brief moment, like under couple of seconds, the headset got recognized on skype app but thereafter it didnt. Have checked changing controllers as well. Pls guide me. Thanks.

Be aware that there are two standards for 3.5mm headset connectors. CTIA and OMTP. The Xbox requires the CTIA standard. If your headset is an OMTP headset, the connectors for ground and microphone are reversed and will not work ok the Xbox.

If your headset is OMTP, get an adapter cable for CTIA to OMTP and vice versa.

Since you say your headset works on your phone:

There are two standards for headset jacks called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards the headset and ground contact are reversed.

So if your phone and headset use the OMTP standard, the headset works. However the Xbox controller needs a CTIA compliant connection. If it's an OMTP headset, the microphone will "talk" to the ground contact on the controller, and the controller will "listen"
to the silent ground pin of the headset.

So try to find an OMTP to CTIA converter cable, which simply crosses both contacts, and it should work.

What headset are you using?

Be aware that there are two standards of headset plugs called CTIA and OMTP. On both standards, the Microphone and ground connector on that plug are reversed.

For a headset to work properly, the headset connector has to be a CTIA standard plug. If your headset is a phone headset (e.g. Apple or some older Android or Nokia compatible headsets), then they use the OMTP standard, and won't work properly.

If you do have an OMTP compatible headset, simply buy a CTIA to OMTP adapter (or since the adapter simply crosses two wires, it is automatically an OMTP to CTIA adapter as well). Also, since the adapter only crosses two wires, these adapters should be dirt
cheap. If a store asks you to pay for this adapter more than you'd pay for a Coffee to Go, you're being ripped off.

Has the microphone worked on the Xbox One before?

If you are trying the headset and microphone for the first time, make sure that your headset is using the CTIA standard and not the OMTP standard for it's plug. For more information about these plugs see this website: https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/accessories/connect-compatible-headset

If your headset has an OMTP instead of CTIA plug, the mic and ground connectors on the plug are switched.

You can then simply buy a "OMTP to CTIA" adapter (since the adapter only crosses two connectors, they work both ways).
