What kind of gift card is it? I've never heard of non MS gift cards for xbox. You can always try inputting the code and see if it works.

Yea, a lot of sorcery's and instant's effects happen before the card is put into play, making them irreversible with a counter card. Very annoying when your creature is destroyed and you want to use Cancel on it, but because they already sent the creature
to the graveyard, you can't do anything. They need to fix the timing of it.

I would recommend removing the card and when you put the card back on the account, put in a non-expired credit card renewal date. I had the same issue a long time ago, and though the card was in date, the card's info on my Xbox wasn't and it would not let
me buy anything.
