My xbox 360 AC power adapter is making a very bad noise

My ac adapter has been making a very loud noise the past few days, does anyone know why this is and what i need to do to fix it...

Power supplies

I have a 360 arcade and the AC adapter turns itself off every now and then and the light on it goes red, it also often makes quite a loud noise. I'm thinking of getting a new adapter but I don't know if it will matter if I get a 150 watt adapter like I have
now, or a 175 watt adapter.

Any help would be very appreciated.

What kind of noises do you hear?

I'd imagine the noises it would normally make are probably a hum from the fan or coil whine (maybe).

I am completely positive that is in energy saving mode also sometimes i will hear an occasional zap or chirp noise and the ac adapter makes a quiet sizzle noise if you put you ear up to it everything else works fine though and i really do not want to exchange
it as there is a risk i could get one with an even worse issue

Obsessive Power

If your console is the original big Xbox One, you can't just plug it into the mains as European mains are 230V and your American console is only 110V. The best course is to buy an official Xbox Power supply unit which you should be able to buy by calling
Xbox support. Do not be tempted into purchasing any third party power supplies. These have not been tested for safety - you could be electrocuted, or cause a fire. And should it fail, your console would be warranty voided.

The other option is a step-up transformer, but these too are not recommended. They tend to run hot, and, just as with a fake power supply, if the transformer damages your console, it will be warranty voided.

If you use an adapter that has a higher voltage than the one that came with the console then you risk blowing out the console and will have to purchase another one.

If you have a GameStop (or other video game shops) in Belgium, you might find used, official power supplies for sale. Otherwise, you should be able to get a replacement power supply if you talk to Xbox Support (chat or phone call). Replacement cost may vary
depending on your Xbox's warranty status.
