Noise from DVD drive after starting a game

I've just started using my Xbox One without wearing headphones. I've noticed that about 30 seconds after putting in a game disk, after the game has started and I'm loading a save or moving through the menus, the DVD drive attempts about 5 to 10 seconds worth
of regular short clunking reads, about a second apart. Is this just disk verification or an indication there maybe something wrong with my DVD drive?

    :)

  2. Does the Xbox 360 E have a different DVD Disc drive to the Xbox 360 slim?

Because I have an Xbox 360 slim and an Xbox 360 E 250GB (Manufacture date 2013-07-23) and the Xbox 360 E makes a 'Grrrr' noise just prior to eject and also if a game is left in the drive idle it makes the same
noise after about a minute, the slim DVD drive
    does not make this noise.

Please see the You Tube link

The DVD drive also ejects smoother on E than the slim, (that’s another reason why i think it may be different. DVD drive)

I know of one other Xbox 360 E that makes exactly the same noise.

    Thanks

  3. Xbox E 360 DVD Drive noise

Yes some DVD drives are like that, and is perfectly normal, if you want to cut down the noise, then if you have a xbox 360 hard drive installed, you can install the games and that will help cut down the noise, as the game will play from the hard drive instead
of the disc.(You will still need the disc in the drive to play though).

Does This Happen Everytime You Use It? If So It Could Be A Sign Of Disc Drive Failure.

Not every time. So far I've noticed it on Battlefield 4 and Tomb Raider Definitive, and only the first time I put the disk in. I can quit the game from the glowing central button menu (I forget what its called), do something else, then start the game again
(without having previously removed the disk) and there will be no noise

However, it does do it the next time I actually insert the disk

Noise from DVD drive after starting a game

There are a few threads on the Update Preview section of the forum on this issue (I myself have it too). Several people have noticed this as well and it seems to coincide with the recent update.

The noise starts roughly 30 seconds after a disc has been inserted and the game has started, the noise lasts around 10-15 seconds and then stops. The discs are still read fine and there appears to be no problems apart from the 10-15 seconds of 'disc read
    noise'.

Here is a video I recorded of my console making the noise.

We are waiting for some acknowledgement on Xbox's part that this is indeed caused by the update, as it hasn't happened to anyone before and it's suddenly started happening to a lot of us.

I spoke with Xbox Support on the chat service. I described the condition using a cut an paste of the descriptive part my original post above. They did not specifically state that it is known or expected behaviour but did say they didn't think it would be
a problem as long as the sound isn't loud and / or grinding (we all know what they're taking about there). They said if I'm worried that there's a problem with the console in I can send it in for repair or replacement. He convinced me that the sound is nothing
to worry about though. I've still got 10 months of warranty and if the console positively fails for any reason in that time, I'll send it in then

Was watching a DVD box set last night and realised it was not making the clunking read noise, so this is only happening with game discs for me. Assume it is the same for everyone else. Don't know if that means anything, just thought I'd point it out.

Still wish there was a way to rollback the system updates or to reset the Xbox to factory settings and then not update the OS to the latest version, that would tell us for sure that it is due to the most recent update.

Thanks for the link but it just comes back as "Group not found". Was there any explanation from MS on the thread?

Ah right, must mean that you have to be registered to preview updates in order to see threads in that section of the forums.

There has still been no response from MS. I've been looking around the net and haven't found a single thing about this issue prior to the March update, it just can't be a coincidence that it is suddenly happening to a number of people in the past couple
of weeks when it's never been reported before.

Went to my retailer to get my console exchanged because of this issue. Got home and did the initial update for the new console. Installed 2 games and then tried them out. Straight away the exact same noise. I don't understand it.
