No way to test mic is working on a controller headset other than chatting to someone?

I can't seem to find any way to test whether the mic on my xbox one controller headset is working or not, well other than actually trying to talk to someone via live that is which isn't very practical to narrow down the cause.

There doesn't appear to be a 'test' type feature under the settings area with say a VU meter which if i recall correctly the 360 had.

There doesn't appear to be a way of sending a voice message to someone, which again if i recall correctly the 360 had and as it had a play-recording-before-sending feature it could be used merely for testing a mic.

I've looked through help/support and there seems to be hardly any mentions of the mic other than the chat mixer, mute button etc.

Am i simply failing to find an existing tool/feature to easily test if the mic is working or is it simply that Microsoft has failed to identify/add this rather simple yet useful missing tool/feature?

    :)

  2. Is my headset mic broken or my controller?

Well my regular $20 headset mic stopped working but I did nothing to it at all... so then I started to wonder if maybe it was the controller jack that is broke.

It seems when I move the mic around in the jack a bit, I can talk in certain areas. Is there any way to test this? I don't want to go out and but a new mic/controller and find out it was the opposite that was working.

    Is the tritton warhead compatible

The "mic" you're referring to is the boom mic that plugs into the headset.

The mic I'm referring to is the chat system that allows one to talk to other players. Normally, that's supported by a wired mic cable that goes from the 360 controller to other headsets. On all other 360 headsets, a cable is required from the base of the
360 controller to the headset for chat. Even the wireless Astro A50 has a mic cable port to go to the 360 controller.

On the Tritton Warhead, that's all done wirelessly, same as the Microsoft Wireless Mic for 360 works. Tritton integrated the wireless mic into the headset base unit so that the headset can be completely wireless - no wired mic cable going to the controller.

It's the wired mic cable that the Tritton Warhead lacks that is the problem. There will be no way for the Warhead's base unit to sync its wireless mic with the Xbox One.

If all you want to do is use the Warhead as a wireless headset without a mic, it will be fine. If you want mic support, it won't.

No way to test mic is working on a controller headset other than chatting to someone?

So after a bit of trawling the forums with the mindset that my headset/mic was okay but something else was the cause of my non-working-mic or more specifically the inability to speak to people using it, given it used to work many moons ago and has been kept
in mint condition, ive discovered a few things:

    1) A non-intuitive but easy way to test the mic - open up 'party' and start a new party with jut yourself. The little circle should illuminate on/off according to whether there is speech/noise heard from the mic.

    2) If the little circle next to your name is permanently illuminated, like mine was, chances are its not due to there constantly being speech/noise but rather a bug that many people have encountered. See

    forums.xbox.com/.../1904207.aspx

    3) With some wiggling and/or putting pressure on the headset connector at the bottom of my controller whilst plugged in and turned on (specifically by pressing hard on the frame as if you're pressing the volume down button but not actually pressing the button
to the point where there was a mm or so gap between connector and controller) this somehow managed to squash the bug as the circle suddenly became non-illuminated and the headset started working as expected, illuminates with noise and un-illuminates with silence.

Note: I say squashed the bug because i dont feel the problem was physical such as a dry solder joint, dicky cable or connector which only works in a certain position and similar which would be most peoples initial thought.

Prior to the fix I tried several unplug/replugs, turning controller off/on, moving cables about, covering the mic holes etc all made no difference - the circle would remain illuminated the moment i plugged the headset into the controller and irrespective
    of whether mute was on/off.

I have no idea how the wiggling/pressure helped other than it triggering some sort of re-detection or firmware reload or protection mechanism to kick on/off. Either way i dont care what it actually did but rather that it did somehow manage to reset/unblock
whatever was causing my problem for wees now and the headset has been working perfectly since (further suggesting it wasn't a physical issue).

As tim the toolman taylor would sort of say, if its broke just push it harder / use more power ... it might just fix an electronical problem with a Microsoft product No way to test mic is working on a controller headset other than chatting to someone? :p

  5. I tried this fix and I actually got my mic symbol to be constantly illuminated (with no voice), but that was the extent of the fix. My mic still didn't work and as soon as I removed the mic from the socket the problem occurred again.

Xbox One Chat headset not working properly with Forza Horizon 3

Well I plugged in my controller via usb cable and headset into the controller. The mic icon still doesn't light up in game when I speak and I must plug in the mic in game for the icon not to be crossed out, other than that the chat headset worked fine just
now. Hope it stays that way :)

Turtle Beach headset issue in Party Chat

I'm actually having the same problem since the update. Party chat, both in game (Neverwinter) and Xbox's Party Chat app, disconnects the mic on my headset. The headset and mic both work in party chat before someone joins but as soon as someone connects with
me they hear me for only a second and then it disconnects my mic. I've hosted the party, I've had others host the party, makes no difference. It's not muted. It works fine in Skype. I've tried partying with different users. I've tried updating the controller
and headset adapter but no updates available. I've tried different controllers. I've tried different headsets as well and the only headset that will work is the crappy one that came with the Xbox. I've hard reset the console. I've booted it up with headset
already plugged in then signed in w/controller (instead of kinect) then loaded into my game and still same issue. I've gone into every setting imaginable and still no go. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
