No surround sound via Xbox One

I'm having problems getting surround sound passed through my Xbox One.

I have a Yamaha RX-V377 receiver which supports Dolby 5.1 and a Panasonic

Blu-ray Recorder DMR-BWT720 which has a Freeview HD tuner. The Blu-ray player

is connected to the xbox one and then the xbox one is connected to the receiver.

Finally the receiver is connected to the TV, all the connections are via HDMI.

When I listen to TV Freeview channels or dvd or blu-ray I only get sound from

the left and right speakers, no sound from the centre, rear left or rear right

speakers. I'm viewing TV via the Xbox One's OneGuide, I have enabled digital

surround sound for TV setting on the Xbox One.

    :)

    Surround Sound Complications

    Hello Community,

I would like to consider myself a Techie but when I setup my Xbox One I got for a present I only ran into frustration and issues.

    Equipment & Setup:

Xbox One plugged into a Sony Receiver via HDMI. Receiver plugged into TV via HDMI cable.

Xbox One set to 5.1 uncompressed (as suggested via researching this online). Receiver states 3/2.1 PCM - I set it to PLII Movie, thus 5.1 Surround Sound.

    Issue:

Hulu app will not play 5.1 surround sound, only FL & FR speakers.

Previews on a Blu-Ray wouldn't play 5.1 surround sound but the actual movie would.

Pandora will only play through FL & FR speakers, no sub.

Netflix will play 5.1 surround sound. Games will play 5.1 surround sound.

    Confusion:

Why are some items playing surround sound and others are not? My previous console had no issues playing Hulu at 5.1 surround sound with same HDMI setup. My other devices I'm using on the receiver are playing 5.1 surround sound just fine.

Seeking help with this. I would hate to return the Xbox One due to something as trivial as Audio. Especially since a device as simple as my Chromcast and PS3 had no issues whatsoever. But if I can't solve this within the week I will have to return for a
    PS4.

Thank you ahead of time for your help and support with this,

    Tom

    Can't Watch SD

Currently, the xbox one does not support digital surround sound via HDMI pass through. I believe they are working on a fix for this.

If you need surround sound, you could perhaps use a S/PDIF digital optical cable from the xbox to your surround capable receiver

Does anyone else have this problem?

It's not an issue; the Xbox One simply doesn't support surround sound yet - they're fixing it with an update soon.

Just to be clear and remove misinformation....

The X1 does support surround sound via the HDMI (which the OP made clear was his setup). It is only via optical out that the X1 (currently) doesn't support surround.

    Video and Audio Delay HELP!

I also have issues running a Sky HD box through the Xbox One. 5.1 to Xbox via HDMI and then on to telly for picture. The surround is fed from Xbox to surround sound via optical out.

It varies from channel to channel, but its getting frustrating now!

Only Stereo and DTS surround via Optical at the moment. Have you set your Xbox One sound settings correctly?
