    No surround sound on YouTube app


    I just installed a new 5.1 receiver. I have the HDMI from Xbox One to the receiver, then HDMI from receiver to the TV. The surround sound works with the game and DVD/bluray but not with the YouTube app. Should surround sound work on YouTube?

    YouTube 5.1 Surround Sound

    I noticed that the YouTube app on the XBox One only puts out stereo sound. Is it designed this way or can it put out 5.1 surround sound? Other apps like Netflix have no problem putting out 5.1. YouTube videos work fine on the computer putting out 5.1.

    Digital surround not working in apps.

    My setup

    Xbox One ->HDMI-> TV ->Optical-> Receiver

    Have settings set to bitstream and Digtal Surround selected for HDMI and Optical

    My Xbox will play games in surround sound perfectly, however if I go to Youtube or the TV app I only get stereo (L + R) channels and my surround speakers are silent. I can go to a 5.1 sound test video on my pc and the sound is flawless however if I go to
    the same video on Xbox One only get audio from my front channels.

    Update. I do not get surround sound on any games either. So the surround sound only works on DVD/ bluray. Any ideas?

    Sound problems

    Hey there,

    Some apps such as YouTube do not support surround sound on Xbox One. If some games & apps work with surround sound, while specific apps do not, the best route to take will be to reach out to the developers of those specific apps to inquire about possible
    surround sound support.

    Hey guys, I have the exact same problem. I have a Bose lifestyle V35 and it won't run surround in apps like youtube, movies etc. The startup sound and games do work.. For example need for speed, the loading sound is great, the back speakers and sub come
    to life.

    I tried all the different settings in the audio out etc, but it won't output 5.1 in apps.. Even the youtube DTS 5.1 tests fail, only work in stereo.

    hope MS can look into this.

    Dolby Surround on HDMI?

    Sad to say that this is still an issue 3 years later. I have a Dolby ProLogic receiver with the XBox One S connected to it via HDMI. When I try to play movies in Apps like YouTube TV the sound is horrible... flat, tinny, and only 2 speakers. I have tried
    every surround sound option on the Xbox including bitstream and nothing is recognized by the receiver as surround sound. In contrast, I also have a Chromecast and it properly sends full, rich 5.1 surround sound over HDMI to the SAME RECEIVER. I was going
    to use the Xbox as the centerpiece of my home theater, but this is a deal killer. It's beyond ridiculous that a $300 Xbox can't do what a $35 Chromecast can do.
