    No Sound on DVD

I've had a sound problem with my Xbox 360 for several weeks now. First, the back story.

    • Xbox hooked up to a "new" TV, works fine, no issues for several weeks.
      • TV is several years old (3 - 5 maybe), but was recently given to me. It's a Westinghouse LCD.
      • Xbox is connected via an HDMI cable.
    • Xbox taken to my in laws house for one night, works fine there, brought back home, hooked up to same Westinghouse LCD.
    • Suddenly there is no sound at all from the Xbox
Peruse Xbox forums and try the following troubleshooting tips:
    • Disable display discovery - no improvement
    • Enable display discovery - no improvement
    • Try a new HDMI cable - no improvement
    • Try every combination of three different HDMI cables in 4 different HDMI input ports - no improvement
    • Switch to RCA connection - sound comes back along with a sad, grainy square picture
    • Swap back to HDMI - no sound again
    • Try connecting laptop over HDMI - no sound
      • Aha, it's the TV, right? Well, maybe...
So I peruse forums for Westinghouse TV troubleshooting tips:

    • Press and hold TV power button for 10 seconds to "reboot" TV - now get sound from Xbox most of the time
So now I have sound in the menus, in games, on netflix, on amazon prime, and seemingly everything, but...

    • I play a DVD - no sound
    • So I tinker with the settings and discover the following:
      • If I change the audio digital output to anything other than "Digital Stero" (other options are "Dolby Digital 5.1" and "Dolby Digital with WMA Pro"), then I completely lose all sound again.
      • When I change it back to "Digital Stereo" then the sound comes back as before (still no sound on DVD).
Finally, before posting this, I try one last thing i read, but hadn't tried yet:

    • Turn off console, turn on console with remote, hold down "Y" and "RT" until console restarts - Problem solved!
So, I actually solved my problem about 5 minutes before posting this, but I thought I would post it anyway in case it helps anyone else with a similar problem.

    :)

    Hey there Elric,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your DVD sound.

There are a couple of things I would check for this one:

    I would also:

    1. Check your Audio settings on your console before you put a DVD.
    2. Check your Audio settings after playing a DVD and see if they are the same
    3. Try changing the digital output settings and see if the sounds still goes to the HDMI for DVDs

Please let us know how that all goes and we'll work from there.

    No Sound on DVD

No follow up needed. The solution was to reset the display settings by holding down "Y" and "RT" during console boot up until the screen flashed and the console rebooted.

Burning games to hard drive before playing them?

Do some DVDs sound quiet and some sound loud? Depends on the DVD maybe?

Does this happen with all your dvds? I notice you only mentioned the one dvd, so it may just be an isolated incident with this one particular dvd. Try other DVds just to make sure it is just that one rental you have
