No Sound from Center Channel on Game Pass Games

I just noticed the same issue while using Netflix. The games I have played so far have center channel, but have noticed no center channel on Netflix and NFL so far. Sounds like there are more out there though with issues.

It's probably the way the game uses its audio API. Some sounds may be prerecorded in stereo and just played back directly over left and right. Some mono sound sources may be mixed directly into a specific output channel or panned into a subset of the output
channels to reduce sound processing overhead. It's been quite common for games to be mixed as 4.0 and have no interior panning, meaning each sound only has to be panned to 2 channels at a time rather than all 5.

Sound engineers on games have been constantly fighting to get the system resources they need in a world where graphics and physics tend to be given priority. If you meet someone who's in their 30s and working in games, they're likely in either sound or in QA.
If they're bald/balding, they're probably designers.

Another reason for not outputting sounds over the center channel may be artistic - since many home theaters are set up with a smaller center speaker that has lesser mid-bass performance than the main speakers and bass management is often maladjusted, developers
may choose to put high-impact sounds into left and right as 'phantom' center in order to preserve the mid-bass, as well as mix directional high-impact sounds as 4.0 or 4.1 excluding the center.

Sounds like you have it set up for 5.1 sound and dint have it. . All that stuff would go to the center channel. Make sure you’re set to stereo in the system and game settings

Hello everyone

My xbox is connected to my onkyo (HT-R550) with a optical cable. With movies i get sound through all speakers but with games i only get sound through the front and surround speakers but not the center channel speaker.

Xbox audio settings :

Optical audio out > bitstream

Bitstream format > dolby digital

Now i have tried switching to DTS but the center speaker still does not produce any sound.

The only way i got the center speaker to work was when i switched to stereo uncompressed but i am not pleased with the overall sound quality.

My question is is it normal for games not to produce sound through the center channel speaker when a xbox is connected with a optical cable to a receiver and dolby digital is selected on the xbox?

I'm using HDMI and it lowers the center channel in FORZA and mutes it during video playback. So pissed right now.
