No Parental Account but set up child account in error

    Hi,

I am a gamers nightmare, a parent that knows very little about technology.... I never set up a “parent” profile on my children’s xbox, and made their profile a “child” one with very strict restrictions.

I want to amend it in the future to enable them play with friends via xbox live, and was wondering is there a way to set up a parent profile in retrospect.

Everything I have searched up says to go to parental account to amend but I don't obviously have one - please help me.

    A

    :)

    Xbox One Child Account Information

Microsoft gives the parents the control over what their kids play, you go into settings, and you can set up the child settings and restrict what ratings for movies, tv shows, music, and games can be accessed by the child account. If you want your child to play a game that's rated M, then set it to that. Want the child restrictions turned off, then do that. The power is in your hands.

Thanks, That's alot more straightforward than Sony's Parental Controls.

Set Recurring Billing for Child Account

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

It sounds like you may have run into a limitation with setting up recurring billing for a child's account on Xbox.

In order to set up recurring billing for a child's account, the adult (or parent) account must have a valid payment method on file and the child account must be set up as a "child account with parental consent" under Family settings.

Here are the steps you can try:

Make sure that you have a valid payment method on your adult account.

Go to the Xbox website and sign in to your account.

Navigate to the "Family" tab and select the child account that you want to set up recurring billing for.

Confirm that the child account has "Child account with parental consent" under Account type.

If the child account is already set up as "Child account with parental consent" and you are able to turn on recurring billing, check that you haven't already subscribed to the Game Pass Ultimate plan on your adult account, as this would cause the error message you're seeing.

It is important to make sure the above steps are done before redeeming the code.

How do I make it so my child can stream on Xbox series s when hes old enough but it says it will be disabled

Thank you for contact us! I'm Anderson, an Independent Consultant and a Microsoft user like you.

    good evening

If your child's Xbox Series S account is set up as a child account, there are a few steps you can take to allow your child to stream on the console when they are old enough.

Make sure that your child's account is linked to a parent account. If it is not already linked, you can link the child account to a parent account by going to "Settings" > "Account" > "Family" on the console, and then following the prompts to link the accounts.

Once the child account is linked to a parent account, the parent can change the privacy and online safety settings for the child account by going to "Settings" > "Account" > "Family" > "Manage family members" > [child's name] > "Privacy & online safety".

Under the "Privacy & online safety" settings, the parent can change the settings for "Online safety" and "Broadcasting". For example, the parent can allow the child to participate in multiplayer gaming and share content online, or allow the child to stream content.

If the parent account is not able to change the settings for the child account, it may be because the child account is set up as a "Younger child" account. In this case, the parent will need to request that the child's account be converted to a "Child" account. This can be done by going to "Settings" > "Account" > "Family" > "Manage family members" > [child's name] > "Change to a child account".

I hope this information helps you allow your child to stream on the Xbox Series S.

    stopping minors spending excessive amounts

An account is able to make online purchases only if it is set up as the account of a mature person since the beginning for a minor's account can't purchase online. This is something the service can't control for it's the data that the user has introduced
which make the difference in the way the account is treated. It falls upon you as a parent to set up the minor's account and the parental control over such account.

Do you get an error message? Is your account a child or adult account? If it's a child account it probably has something to do with your parental settings.

    Error Code 801540FE

I had this issue when I accidentally deleted the parent account (though I restored it later).

    My solution (Xbox 360):

    1. Re-link the child account to a parent account on Microsoft family (parent account's age must be over 18), if not yet linked. Ensure that when the child account is added to the Microsoft's family system, the child account is added as a child.

    2. Ensure that the child account s age is under 18

    3. Ensure that the child account does not possess any payment options (credit card, debit cards etc.). If so, remove all payment options.

    4. Set up the parent account's Microsoft Account options to ensure that it is a valid account. If possible, also try to add a payment option for the parent account.

    5. On your Xbox, delete any profiles associated with your parent and child account (Main menu > Settings > System > Storage > Hard Drive > Profiles > (Select profile) > Delete)

    6. Sign in to the parent account on your Xbox, followed by the child account.

I believe this issue has nothing to do with an invalid parent account, in fact I think it s caused by an invalid CHILD account, just that the Xbox error handler doesn't have an error for invalid child account. I tried to tackle this problem before by using
another Microsoft parent account, but that didn't work, so I changed the CHILD account s settings and viola!

Not quite sure if the steps above can be replicated on an Xbox One, but the fundamental concept should remain the same (modify child account).
