    i purchased an x box one s for my 11 year old this Christmas. With no manual provided i tried to set it up and everything was ok until he tried to play Fortnite. It will not allow him to play and wants me to acees the parent account but i only set up his
    account. How can i add a parent account so that i can help him out?

    Hello Rod,

    Yes you can remove the payment instrument from your sons account. Make sure before doing so to turn off the auto renew on the Xbox live subscription. You can do that on the website by signing into the sons account.

    something that might work is to login to your Microsoft Account, assuming you have one and then add your 11yo to a Microsoft Family via this link;

    https://account.microsoft.com/family/

    This can also be done via the console, but you'll have to use/create your own Xbox Live Account (Microsoft account) and place it also on the console to do that.

    After the parental account etc has been set up, you should be able to change what the child account can and can not do. This can be changed via the console, but also via the earlier family link or

    via the parental account.

    Hi

    thank you for the advice. I logged in from my laptop and followed the steps you suggested. This seems to have worked but i will get my son to try playing Fortnite on the X Box tomorrow morning to confirm.

    My follw up question is about billing. When I setup the account for my son I subscribed to Xbox Live Gold with my credit card. I did set a pin or authenticator code. If I add the same card details to my account can i then remove it from his without losing
    the Gold subscription?
