well I tried everything, buying new controllers, leaving the preview program, etc. literally everything. Still my xbox doesn't hear when I speak into the mic. Like I said after all the troubleshooting and tests, it wasn't the controller, the headset, or
the preview program, or the NAT or the ports, or anything else. I honestly have no idea why a console would break in such a way that the only problem would be it doesn't hear your voice. Though when I left the preview program it did give an error when reverting
back to the old OS so I don't know if these are related. Well anyway, it happened, and I'm out of options. My device is not eligible for repair as it is out of warranty when I look on the website and it says the only option is a standard exchange for £84 to
get a refurbished console. Does anyone know how many business days it takes for this process to happen? Anyway, absolutely pathetic, my console is 1.5 years old and already ***, while my rusty old xbox 360 of 4.5 years still works perfectly despite being dropped,
kicked, and stepped on goodness knows how many times. Just a sign of the times I guess, companies making things cheaper so customers are forced to keep paying for repairs/new products so they can make more money.

    :)

  2. Standard Exchange

First off. I have been a loyal MS customer since the original Xbox launched. Got nothing but love for it. I defend the Xbox to the death over in the PS forums. YES i own both consoles and BOTH are awesome!!

But I do have to admit that MS has issues when it comes to the reliability of their consoles IMO.

For example, I just started a thread in here. Stating the fact that my original launch Xbox One does not read discs. It tells me to make sure the disc is an Xbox compatible disc. Which it is!!!

So I contacted support only to be told to go through the SAME OLD STEP AS ALWAYS! Restart, Hard Reset, etc.

So finally I found a BITTER SWEET solution on youtube. For some reason the disc does not insert all the way back to where the laser reads the disc properly. So the Xbox has to be tilted upward from the front. I put an old Xbox 360 game box under it and guess
what......its worked ever since. No more error. According to google there are a lot gamers having this issue.

Where is MS on this??? Who knows!!!! I am getting really tired of their products. Of course they want $150 to fix. REALLY!!!!!!!!

  3. Standard Exchange

Firstly, I am disappointed in the service MS provide. Over a period of about 6-8 months (shortly after my warranty expired) my controller kept disconnecting randomly then in the last few weeks they would no longer connect at all. I tried everything from
new controllers, new batteries, updates, resets and hard resets. You name it I tried it. So, I had no choice but to stump up £100 to pay for a Standard Exchange.

I've recently (today) spoke to a MS Support person on Chat for an update as the console has been confirmed to have been received at the Service Centre. A simple question; What is the tunr around for a new console? He din't know, not only did he not know but
he also stated they may want to repair my console. I have paid for an exchange so why would I want a repair? Anybody else had this issue?

I can't believe that I had to pay for this process in the first place, MS don't even have a complaint system in place which makes it hard to raise issues. The system problems I was having isn't mentioned by MS and I had to find similar people with similar issues
online in random forums so it is a common problem.

My console has sat on a shelf in a open area and is in perfect physical condition. I'm not naive to think that hardware doesn't fail over time but this is clearly a MS hardware fault. Why should I pay £100 for a the wireless connection component of the console
no longer working? Anyway, I have paid now but does anybody know when I'm likely to receive a replacement (if a replacement at all)? They have received it at the Service Centre in the eatly hours of this morning (26/01/2016).

You should expect a replacement console to be delivered to you within about ten working days of Microsoft receiving your defective unit. I haven't had any issues with either my Xbox 360 or Xbox One, but my sister's Xbox 360 was replaced three days after
sending it to Microsoft last year.

  6. Have you tried factory reset it?and my advice is to stay well away from preview as its a Xbox killer?my experience of replacement consoles is that they generally take a week an half at most from UK as they go to Germany and the item you receive is usually
like new but if you havnt factory reset yet try that first as i would not encourage anyone to give Microsoft an more money as they are greedy enough and im sure theres a law about items working for 6 years or get them replaced free, google it to try find the
ins and outs of it before coughing up to these pirates.

  7. The six year warranty law is with the retailer, not the manufacturer, so that would mean I would have to go back to GAME and take it up with them, but even so, like I said, I don't have money for a solicitor so whether it be Microsoft or GAME or any other
company, I can't take it to court to collect my money/replacement.

You do not need to consult a solicitor. Your local Citizens Advice Bureau will assist you with getting your money back or a replacement console from the retailer, if you are able to demonstrate that it is an inherent flaw (this is easy enough - if there
is nothing other that cosmetic damage to the console and you have not opened it any flaw can be described as inherent). You are protected under the Sale of Goods Act 1980. If you end up needing to go to court, Citizens Advice will assist with completing the
initial writ. If you are on a low income or receiving certain social security benefits, court fees will be waived. In Scotland it costs £17 to lodge a small claim. I have no experience of the systems in England and Wales or Northern Ireland, but I expect it
would be the same. Note that the Sale of Goods Act 1980 protects you for six years in Scotland and five years in England and Wales. As you have said six years, I am assuming you live in Scotland. Also, as you have said, your only course of action is with the
retailer (GAME) and you cannot take action against Microsoft. If GAME believe Microsoft have supplied them with a faulty device, it is up to them to take action against the manufacturer (or their supplier, if they are not supplied directly by Microsoft). Also,
GAME sell both new and second hand consoles. You will only be protected if your console was brand new when you bought it.

  9. Ok, I can definitely do that. I read that that it was 6 years in England, and 5 in Scotland, not the other way around, but it's not been 2 years yet so it doesn't matter. If it is this easy and cheap, I can take it to court if necessary, however apparently
after 6 months of purchase, the onus is on me to prove to the retailer that the product is faulty. Now I could demonstrate to them by testing different microphones and such, but if they don't accept that. will I have to pay money to get an expert technician
to prove it, or will that be enough to prove in court that it is faulty?

  10. so yeah the damage is not cosmetic. I don't know what the issue is but basically no matter what mic I use, the xbox fails to pick up my voice. there must be a motherboard issue or hardware issue. by the way, I don't think this act covers accidental damage.
If someone dropped their xbox down the stairs, you wouldn't be able to go back after 4 years and claim a replacement. so i don't think cosmetic damage is even covered.

By cosmetic damage, I mean scratches on the console, and light marks. You are right, if you dropped it down the stairs that wouldn't be cosmetic damage. And my apologies, I did consumer and business law at university for three semesters but that was six
years ago - you are right that it is six years in England, five years in Scotland. I also managed to get the year wrong - it's the Sale of Goods Act 1979. This was replaced by the Consumer Rights Act 2015 last October. Your rights are pretty much the same,
the act mostly simplified and consolidated existing legislation. You can read more about the new act and your rights on Which's website here:

    www.which.co.uk/.../consumer-rights-act

As long as you can demonstrate that the device is not fit for purpose (which is easy enough - the party chat and game chat systems are integral parts of the Xbox One Experience), you should have no problem getting a refund or replacement from the retailer.
If you do run into trouble, consult Citizens Advice and ask for their assistance. If you are still getting nowhere, then I would suggest going to court. You may find that the judge adjourns the case if he/she requires you to get proof that this is an inherent
flaw, but in most cases they will side with the consumer.

  12. Its alright, if its only £17 then I'll be happy to pay that. What makes me angry though is how so many companies rip you off and don't mention this to you. They sell extended warranties which is basically a scam, and people buy new products when they refuse
to replace it, I guess knowing your rights help a lot lol
