No more automatic game and app updates?

Today, again, the X1 had so much time for downloading the new BF4 update, when I was at work. And what happened? NOTHING! Now I had to start the download manually again... Again, lost energy for nothing! FIX THIS!

No, automatic or manually update as you run an app, there is no way of checking if an app needs updated.

 

New icons since April update?

It means the game or app has recently received an automatic update. To remove it you just need to launch the game or app.

Seriously? Of course, the settings are correct. Everything was fine until about 3 weeks.

 

I don't know why some just refuse to admit X1 has issues. Fanboy syndrome aside, I'm a huge MS fan, there is no questioning that, but i call them as i see it and the X1 has issues that just shouldn't be there for a system that comes after the great xbox
360.

 

After going back and forth with @XboxSupport on Twitter, they are looking into my issues and will get back to me tomorrow by 1pm CST. ZEISMAN, the same thing happened to me. Several weeks ago it was working fine then doesn't do any auto-updating for any
installed digital games or apps or disc based games. @XboxSupport told me that for disc based games I would have to start up the disc to start a download, but I had to tell them this was not originally the case. Plus doesn't that defeat the entire purpose
of being able to download updates automatically? Anyway, you should be able to see the exchange I had with them back and forth if you look on Twitter for me, @auxopher.

 

Just wanted to chime in that I experienced the same thing today as well. Games used to auto-update (I saw notifications that it happened). Today I turned on my system for the first time in about a week (sad, I know). I didn't have any notifications. Before
watching a movie, I thought I'd play Forza. No... had to get an update. Then I tried KI since I hadn't tried it since Day One... had to wait for an update there, too. By the time my updates were done, the family was ready for a movie. I haven't performed
a full shutdown to see if that will resolve the issue.

 

I turned on my One today to find out that none of the 3 games I'd previously installed and played were playable. In fact, 2 of them have seemingly completely disappeared from the machine. Because of the ridiculous ambiguity that is the "Installing..."
icon, it's impossible to tell if it's currently downloading an update, trying to install from the disc or silently laughing at me for spending money upon it.

Would it really have been that difficult to make the update and disc install tiles appear differently? Why do I have to turn off wireless, turn my system off, unplug it from the wall, twiddle my thumbs, turn it back on and pray for it to work? If your
car required as much start-up maintenance and repair out of the gate, you'd return it as a lemon immediately, but here we sit, still waiting for quality answers months later to simple questions. Guess the joke's on us.

 

Mine updates fine. for some more back ground, I am running a Wired connection, Asus RT-AC68U Router, Cox cable Internet, and a Cisco Docsis 3. router.

So for those of you who are not: Are you wireless? Can you use your router log to see if your internet disconnects randomly? I am wondering if the latest patch did something with the wireless network adapter on the console, or if your internet does disconnect
then reconnects that may be the problem as well. Just some thoughts and ideas.

 

My system has always been wired into the same router/modem combo I've had. I have Cox internet and a Motorola Surfboard Docsis 3 modem/router combo. Came highly recommended from my buddy who works at Cox.

These issues don't make sense. It worked with no issue then to stop randomly is weird. @XboxSupport still does not have a resolution for me. I was supposed to get one yesterday (1-31-14) afternoon. They are "still waiting for a email reply from the appropriate
team looking into the matter." My system downloaded the system update in December automatically, no issue. Everything is properly enabled for automatic updates. This is ridiculous. I'm sure we all just want it to work like we were told it would! No one wants
to wait for a 13GB update to download!

 

^Strange indeed. LogicGazer- I guess my hypothesis of a wireless connection just went out the window How about just for giggles, change the mode from instant on to energy saving, reboot, and then res-select instant on? Sounds like it may be a software
glitch. I am out of ideas at this point, unless the internet connection drops and X1 wont download after that...

 

I am having the same problem, I went to play bf4 today and had a 1.6gb update arg! I had instant on and everything. This needs too be fixed!

 

Thanks for the suggestion BusGod. Alas it did not work. (I did give my system several days time to download any game updates.) Since Mikeyg76 said there was a BF4 upstate I just put that disc in and my system did something new... But it wasn't to just boot
up the game because it had downloaded the update automatically... It did not download the update automatically of course.

After putting in the disc I clicked on BF4 to run it. The system tells me there is an update needed. Then after less than 3 seconds it tells me the update is done. I go to run the game and it will not load. No system message, just a click on the game tile
that does nothing. I even entered and exited several other menus. Still nothing. I run Killer Instinct. That boots up fine. Go back to BF4. Still nothing. I turn the system off. Turn it back on. Then my system tells me the game needs an update that's over
1GB. I select it to download... And turn my console off. (Instant on mode is still enabled.)

Now this reminded me that my system did the same exact thing for CoD Ghosts last Wednesday. Also when KI had the update for Spinal, it did not auto download. I tried to run KI last night and it went to download the update. After it was done 100% "installing"
I went to run the game. It would not load. I ran Max, Peggle 2, Crimson Dragon, Halo Spartan Assault... All fine. Then I go back to KI, it booted up into the game.

I've read that there's a theory that my internet connection could be shutting off in the night or something. No, it's not. I know this because my Wii U and PS3 auto update and back up no issues. My iPad and iPhone back up to iCloud in the middle of the night
too with no issues.

Having all these issues really make me question my investments. It makes it seem that the small talk of the OS being half baked is true. Yes, a "big update" planned for March is supposed to fix issues. I imagine this will be released right before Titanfall
launches so new adopters will have a supposed better experience.
