No HDMI on my monitor

Hello everyone

I am moving my Xbox 360 from my living room to my computer room. I can't stand controllers, and now with the xbox one, I finally convinced my brother to let me bring it upstairs. I will be buying a XIM in the future and use it on my desk. I unhooked everything
to find my screen doesn't have an HDMI. Can I use one on my computer? I think my computer has HDMI, not my screen tho. Thanks guys

HDMI Problems with dual monitors.

Hi. I have a dual monitor setup with a PC plugged into it. On one monitor I connect the HDMI Xbox cable to the HDMI port on my monitor. How ever, whenever I switch to HDMI mode on that monitor it just says, "HDMI No Signal" please help!

So I've been using an HDMI to DVI adapter since December 2015 to play my Xbox One on my Dell Monitor, and it's been working great until this past week when my monitor no longer detected a source on my DVI input (it goes into Energy Saving sleep mode). When
I unplug my HDMI cable, the monitor changes and says it detects no input. Here's my setup -

To troubleshoot the issue, I've tried a new HDMI cable, new adapter, and a different monitor, all to no avail. I checked if it was my Xbox One by plugging it into a friends HDMI-compatible monitor, and it worked just fine on his monitor, then came back to
mine and same issue - no detection.

I doubt it's an update, because my Xbox isn't connected to the internet (I know this is a mass sin, using DVI and no Internet for such a powerful system, but the school I'm at is Draconian in it's internet security).

So, I'm stuck with buying a new HDMI monitor to play my system - but in the interest of pinching some more pennies I thought I would open up the question here first.

Any help is much appreciated!!

 

I just checked and the Xbox turns on but I couldn't get it to display on my screen.

 

THe HDMI port on your computer is more than likely an output port from the video card, not an input or pass-through as I have yet to see one of those in any PC. To use the Xbox One you will either need a monitor/TV with an HDMI port or use an HDMI to VGA
adapter as I do to run mine to my projector. The drawbacks of the adapter are that you won't be able to watch DVDs or Blu-Ray discs due to the anti-piracy built into HDMI and that you will need to use the optical port for sound. You can also get sound through
headphones that use the Microsoft Chat Adapter.

I got an HDMI to HDMI male, and an HDMI female to Displayport male adapter and cable. my monitor has displayport and I plugged everything in and it didn't work. What should I do?

 

Sounds to me like you have the wrong cable - the one you have would be for converting DisplayPort to HDMI and not the converse - they don't work both ways. You will need an active converter, not just a cable. The converter will have a USB plug as well to
power it. You would need something like this:

I imagine this converter will have the same issues with DVD/Blu-Ray movie discs as the VGA converter due to the built-in anti-piracy on HDMI, but will work fine for games and streaming video like Hulu and Amazon Video.

Yup, what you have won't work as it is a one-way converter - and not the way you need it. The eBay description even says the input is DisplayPort and output is HDMI. I almost made the same mistake when buying my converter but research showed me that just
a cheap cable or converter doesn't work both ways. You need an active converter that is powered to change the HDMI signal to DisplayPort, DVI or VGA.

 

Does it have to be an active converter or can I just get hdmi input to displayport output? Thanks

 

You'll have to get an active converter - just a cable won't do it.
