No games install using the Xbox app when they used to install just fine a few months ago

Could you tell me which troubleshooting steps you have done so far on your system?

In the meantime try this:

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

Then do this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset, open the app and try again.

Finally sign out from your Microsoft account on the store and Xbox app and do this:

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R key.

Step 2: Input WSReset.exe in the Run window and click OK.

Step 3: Then a command prompt window will appear. After a few seconds, Windows Store will open.

Sign in and try again

Now that you mention it, I also had the same exact issue when I tried to install NBA 2K20 a few months ago. But NBA2K19 installed just fine. Just 2k20 and 2k22.

Just for us to check if it's the games or the steam client, kindly install HALO Infinite on the Xbox App itself.

Since we have confirmed that everything is working just fine on your Xbox account along with the Xbox Networking we need to isolate the issue further.

If it's working just fine when you install it on Xbox App it would be really best to have it checked with the game support along with Steam support.

Reinstalling Windows to fix a broken gaming app is simply not an option and neither is using a new Windows account which is also hours of work until everything is installed / copied / configured.

It's simply ridiculous that they use some obscure Windows configurations or services that nobody can easily identify / fix and that rather consistently break the Xbox app.

That's on top of Microsoft breaking the app from time to time themselves, like a few months ago when games were not installed to the configured install location for some time.

I am about to give up on this stupid Xbox app and cancel Gamepass despite being a subscriber since day 1.

I only play 2-3 games on Gamepass per year anyway, so I could just buy them on Steam, which pretty much always works, as do Epic and GoG.
