Nightmare; Lost components

Please do not allow this to happen to you. My son returned from his spring break trip to beach without the small bag containing components, controllers, connections, and power supply for his Xbox One console. We checked with motel, no luck in recovery.
I promised him that I woud get started on replacement of equipment. Controllers are no problem, numerous retailers, could not locate power supply at retailers.

On line retailers, only after market power packs listed on Amazon, OEM equipment listed on ebay at rather exorbitant pricing. As last resort, came to Xbox web site due to past experiences with extremely slow service. Attempted to purchase power supply,
could only order with demand of return of defective device. Naturally, I do not have a defective device to return. After 2 failed attempts at online chat, I made contact with a lady who said that it would be no problem to ship a replacement, that I would
only need to ship defective device, this chat wasted 30 minutes, in that she totally missed the original problem. She advised that the only way that I could purchase a new power supply would be to purchase an entire new system. I called customer service
and spoke with a very nice gentleman who gave me a work around for this situation, we couldn't get to the work around due to an order that had been placed by chat agent. He suggested that I wait a few hours for the cancellation of the order to complete. He
was kind enough to email instructions for the work around to be completed after order cancellation clearing.

I attempted the work around unsuccessfully, called customer service again, a lady advised that the work around was not successful due to my component being within the 90 day warranty period, this was the third different story that I had received regarding
Requested to speak with a supervisor, a gentleman came on the phone after a rather lengthy period. He told me a very interesting story. He said due to the large number of "fraudulent" replacements of consoles during the roll out period (seems that Microsoft
was shipping new consoles callers with instructions to forward defective consoles upon receipt) that I could provide my purchase receipt and that Microsoft would ship a new power supply for a fee of $35. This sounded perfectly reasonable, until after 3 succinct
inquires as to lead time for shipment, were answered with the BS generality of "I can assure you that... as soon as possible".

I surrendered, this morning I purchased a replacement ($90 buy it now) from a gentleman on ebay. He told me a rather interesting story, he purchases basic Xbox One bundles at Best Buy and parts them out (he claims very profitably) on ebay. He says that
the power supply is the crown jewel in profitability.

My background is in mechanical engineering, I had actually advised my son that the external PSU offered on the Xbox one was a design advantage, overheating problems could be confined to component and would not require replacement of entire console. (Had
PS3's for years with all the heat issues, but kudos to Sony, they are light years ahead of MS in customer service).

In summation I am very sad that Microsoft's error in judgement resulted in a "black market" of consoles requiring components, I am sad that my son was not responsible in securing his equipment, but he at least admits culpability. I have wasted the large
part of a day in dealing with this issue.

We are admonished that use of an after market power supply will void warranty from a company that will not sell us an OEM device!
