NFTS-fornatted drive not recognized as one by my Series X

I'd like to use an 500GB drive to capture game screenshots and videos from my XSX and read where an external drive has to be formatted as an NFTS drive by a PC. No problems there so I formatted the drive as such. However, my console doesn't recognize it was an NFTS drive. It thinks I want to use it for music and other media and keeps telling me I have to format it using my PC as an NFTS drive. I've done that a few times now and it's still telling me that. Should I nuke the drive using the Windows disk manager and start from scratch? I'm not sure what else can be done as it doesn't make sense to me why it keeps telling me it's not an NFTS drive when I know it is.

    :)

Hello, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

My name is welcome to the community.

Hello Benseac, do not know in what type of case you are putting the HD that formatted in NTFS, but for it to work properly and can be recognized to save games and mída the case has to have a USB 3.0 output and the connection cable also has to be USB 3.0

    Hi Georges,

Thanks for the reply. My drive is an external 500GB SSD with a USB 3.0 connection. I *think* I came up with the reason a few minutes ago but I won't be able to check for a little bit as I'm working.

When I originally setup and formatted the drive, I noticed that it had a small EFI partition that the disk manage wouldn't let me nuke. I believe this is what it causing the problem and I found a way of eradicating that partition using the Windows command diskpart. I'll update my message if that works. I'm cautiously optimistic that that'll do the trick.

Hello again, thanks fot the feedback, one thing you can also try is to use hd partitioning software, usually manufacturers make available for free on the site.

"Diskpart" did the trick and my drive is now being recognized as the capture location. One thing I did have to do is reformat the drive NFTS with the "quick format" option checked off. When I reformatted it after removing the partition with that option checked on, my console complained that the drive was too slow when it wasn't. A quick internet search led me to try reformatting it with "quick format" unchecked so I tried it,

So, all is well and the drive is working as intended. Thanks for your help, Georges! :)
