Next gen what a waste of time

As GG has hinted at, if remasters bring some cash into the developers, someone must be buying them, and that someone is possibly someone like me, who has only had a console of any sort for 3 months, and sees what's available on 360 and thinks "why can't
I get that on XB1?" - Not everyone has been xbox gaming for years and has already played these remastered games.

Great...waste time, money and resources on last gen ports and BC optimisation...because that's exactly why I bought a bloody "Next Gen" system!

i see nothing wrong with remasters, it already exists in all other forms of entertainment media, so if the devs want to make a fast buck that helps them secure the future of their studio, let'em. and clearly there is a demand for it or else they would've
stopped by now.

i'm still looking forward/hoping to see Mass Effect and BioShock to be remastered.

 

@Zero the problem with remasters is they are spending time on those rather than new games. Saying that the new games havent been much good lately and at the end of this week my last 3 game purchases will all be remakes.

 

i see your point Boas BS5, and i'm not saying that you're wrong or anything, but without knowing the details of it all, like with Halo 3:ODST, they said they weren't planning on remastering the game, so they are only taking about 6 months to remaster it,
and for all we know it's being done by a group of people that are currently not on a project.

just a few thoughts that i have about it.

 

They have different teams.

It's easy money for publishers but from what we saw those publishers can still make/release new games.

As I have said in past threads tho by the end of this year we will see all the new games coming out plus all E3 should throw up some announcements for future games to get excited about. I just need the next 'DAI' now as i feel like i have seen it and done
it all atm lol.

@ LostKauz, I have to admit it's weird seeing you getting fed up with this console as you've always seemed to support MS. What is annoying you the most besides the amount of shovelware? Is it the UI or something else?

 

Just because a developer does a 'remaster' doesn't mean they aren't also working on new games you know. Unless a remaster was exclusive to the Xbox 360, the remaster will likely come from the PC version. This is a much easier process as the game doesn't
have to be recoded from scratch, because the Xbox One and the PC are essentially the same architecture.

Next gen , is really current gen.

But in terms of power and performance , compared to Pc , it was last gen on the day of release .

So my advice to the op , is to go straight from his alleged 360 , to high end pc .

In fact , that advice could apply to a lot of people that post on the Xb1 forum .

Me , I'm happy enough here .

 

When I eventually do throw down on a One... I reckon my library will consist of a lot of remasters. The majority are quality games that aren't just still being played on last-gen, but are also still being played on PC.

That makes them current, and deserving of their appearances on the One. IMO

I fully intend to play the hell out of ACIV when I get a One - probably in May, gotta have it before Arkham Knight hits - because my PC version required a lot of tweaking and some rolled back drivers before I could find a balance between performance and
nice visuals.

I don't even want to try AC: Unity on my rig. I thought Unity would have been the game to get me to buy a One... but thankfully I waited. Otherwise my first experience on the One would have been a broken game.

Any last-gen game that had a decent PC version could potentially appear on the One as a remaster. S'not a bad thing. But if you want to know what'll probably get the treatment... look for those games that made appearances on the PC last-gen.

It's easy work for devs to get these games onto the One/PS4. Way cheaper for publishers than bringing something entirely new to the platforms. S'a cash cow for the early years of this console cycle. Again, s'not a bad thing though, IMO.

 

I don't think many remasters are actually carried out by the original developers are they? Usually smaller teams are brought in to do the work and it is just that for these smaller developers... WORK.

Also if you don't like remasters, don't buy them. There are plenty of original games coming, unless you are one of those people who don't count anything but AAA games.

Personally I'll buy the remasters for the games I loved on previous gen and so that I can now play on my current system rather than having to dust off some other console.

Halo MCC was great because they went above and beyond the usual remaster and it gave me a chance to finish Halo 1 and 2 for which I had played but never finished.

If a Gears remaster is ever done I'll be there day 0 ready to chuck cash at who ever can hand me my copy.
