Newer controllers don't recognize the mic on either of my headsets

So I have two separate Xbox One S consoles, and 3 different controllers. One controller is an older black one (model 1697) and the other two are newer that came with their bundles (both model 1708).

My headsets work 100% correctly on the older model controller. Both of my headsets work great with it on both xboxes

My newer controllers work 90% correctly with both headsets on both xboxes, EVERYTHING functions other than the mic. I can even hear my voice feedback in the headset but no one else can hear me in chat, can't record voice messages, can't skype. My mics do
not work at all on the newer controllers.

All controllers are fully updated, headsets are earforce xo one, and turtle beach X41. I have tried every headset on every controller on each xbox. The problem is isolated to the 2 newer controllers.

What on earth can I do to fix this?

Chat Headset model 1564 is not recognized by controller model 1708, but is recognized by controller model 1697

- Chat Headset model 1564 is not recognized by newer controller model 1708, but is recognized by older controller model 1697 (and older). Party chat/xbox doesn't recognize it, mute button doesn't work, volume doesn't work, mic/ear piece doesn't work, etc.

- happens on 2 different 1708 controllers (1 brand new from box)

- headset is brand new from box

- controllers are all updated with latest firmware

- 1708 controllers recognize older chat headset (but mic is broken - also model 1564 mic) and recognize 3.5mm headsets (3rd party brands)

- system has been power cycled multiple times, controllers have been powered on/off multiple times

- new mic is not recognized in controller setups on newer 1708 controllers

- old mic and 3.5mm headphones are recognized on newer 1708 controller and older versions in controller setup options

- xbox gamer chat support suggested possible faulty controllers - hard to believe it's the exact same thing on 2 different controllers bought a year apart happening at the same time.

any suggestions/ideas?

Headset: Can hear friends, but mic won't detect my voice. Tried 2 headsets. Kinect mic works!

I ran into this issue a couple of weeks ago. My mic stopped picking up my voice, but Xbox detected the mic and played back voice through the headset.

I tried the mic on two different controllers and it wouldn't work on either. Xbox detects the mic, but it won't record any voice. So I went out and bought a brand new $20 headset - NO LUCK. The new headset doesn't work on either controller. Once again, Xbox
detects the mic and I can hear my friends through the headset but the mic won't pickup my voice.

My privacy settings are fine and my Kinect mic works. What in the heck is going on here? This is driving me insane!

Have you by chance used these controllers with a Windows 10 PC as well as the console?

What OS version are you running on the console, and are you part of the Insider program by chance?

Just to be sure, have you gone through all of the steps on the
Mic troubleshooting guide as well.

Post back and lets us know how that goes or if you managed to get the everything working!

Hi, thank you for the response. Yes, the headset and mic work with another controller with an older firmware.

The headset, once plugged into the controller with newer firmware, there is absolutely no audio from anything and the mic does not work. The controller does not recognize the headset at all.

Please note, the controller in question is a customized controller from Microsoft.

All controllers have already been updated (and were up to date previously, therefore no change in firmware - v 3.1.1221.0), and headset was plugged in during all attempts.

System has been reset

Issue still present on both newer 1708 model controllers and they will not recognize the mic/headset.

Any other suggestions/ideas?

Their is no mute button, either the two headsets don't work or the port where the mic plugs into on the controller doesn't work anymore, you can either try the headsets with another controller or buy a new headset.

thanks for a quick reply.

Unfortunately I've already tried all those methods (except from trying my headset with a laptop, because my headset doesn't plug through 3,5 mm jack, but through the other one) and none worked:

I've updated my controller with chat headset plugged in and it brought nothing

I've tried using the headset while the controller was wired via USB and it brought nothing as well

I could tell that the headset was correctly plugged in because it got recognized by the controller and because the mute button lit each time I pressed

I did try the headset with 4 different controllers - 3 of them were the newer Xbox One S controllers and the 4th was the standard Xbox One controller. With the latter one the headset actually worked correctly and the mic was recognized as it supposed to.

And I've also checked for updates for the console itself - it is up to date.

Are there any other possible solutions to this problem?
