New Xbox One internet speed issue?

I have a very fast (for the UK) fibre optic internet connection. Usually around 60mbps download and around 8mbps upload.

Today I am setting up a new Xbox One after many years of 360s.

The speed of downloading Forza 5 is concerning me, as it is taking hours and barely moving. I dread to think how long it may take people with a slower connection. Days and weeks maybe!

When I go to the detailed network settings option it shows the following information -

    31.87 mbps down

    9.63 mpbs up

This is showing at least 20mbps lower than speedtest website. Anybody have any ideas why that would be the case?

    :)

  3. Experiencing lag when playing?

What's your internet connection speed? Are other devices connected to the internet aside from Xbox? I guess the problem lies with the internet connection. Do a test at speedtest.net. In case the speed is okay try to see if the other devices are eating up your internet speed by turning them off and focus on Xbox One.

the reason the download is lower on the X1 vs a speed test site is most likely because a speed test site goes to the closest server for more accurate results, but on the X1 you're connecting to to a Xbox server.... somewhere.

if you go to a speed test site that lets you choose the server, run a test to a server closest to you, then run a test to furthest server, you'll see a big difference in speeds and ping times.

there is a MS server farm not 10 miles from my house that i know houses some Xbox Live servers, and my speed tests come out at 55x6mbps almost every test, and i have a 50x5mbps plan.

Interesting. Many thanks, I will have a look into that.

No doubt I will still have plenty of speed to do the things I want to, but nobody likes to think they are not getting what they are paying for!

    Merry Christmas

something else to be aware of, if you buy a game on disc, it will have to be fully installed on the console and if connected to the internet, the X1 will download patches before installing the game, and some of these games have massive day one updates that
will great increase the time to install a game. so something to keep in mind, and if it becomes more than you can bear, take the X1 offline and install the disc, it will be quicker.

Those are still pretty fast speeds.

But keep in mind that Forza 5 is a 30+ GB file. Its going to take a little time.
