New Xbox One has never connected to the internet.

Hi there,

I got a new Xbox One from a friend but the warranty was up in 2015 so I was thinking of fixing it myself.

I must connect to the internet before I can do anything yet I can never connect. The different wireless networks show up but I always get an error.

Ethernet works on my laptop but won't work from any of the modem ports. It was suggested I reroute the ports to allow Xbox to connect but that didn't work.

When I called Xbox - they said to take it to Best Buy for help! Yeah no.

So anyway, I really think it needs a new network card which I can easily put in myself, but I wanted to ask if that's what others think as well before I spend the $.
