New Xbox one Controller D pad issues

Update: Received a new Master Chief 1TB console bundle from Amazon, and the new 3.5mm headphone jack controller seems fine. The D-Pad feels almost like a mouse click in all directions, as it should.

I'm only posting because (as far as I know) the controller in this bundle is identical to the covert forces controller, sans the snazzy paint job. Seems like it's at least a small quality control overlook on the new controllers.

Xbox One S LE controller D Pads

Has anyone noticed the difference in the D-Pad quality/build of the Xbox One S LE controllers? The D-Pad feels poorly built and isn't the same as previous controller models. Any controller built after the Xbox One S White controller seems to have this "new"
cheaply built D-Pad that seems to become defective rather quickly.

I noticed this newer D-Pad in the following controllers:

I just bought the covert forces controller and I'm experiencing the same issue. The d pad is unresponsive. I'm currently in possession of the controller and retail packaging, and it's still unresponsive.

 

The issue seems to apply to all the new D-pads with the audio jack and the better bumpers (not just the Covert Forces ones): The D-pad, which was clicky and responsive in the earlier controller version, is now silent and un-responsive. It takes a lot more
pressure, and even then, inputs are often missed. I bought one at Gamstop, had the problem, returned and exchanged it, and the replacement has the same problem.

Why would MS change something that worked so well? This is infuriating. There seems to be no solution other than tracking down an older-version controller for the One. Any hope of a design fix?

Well I have the same issue!! I've just bought my first Xbox One console with a second seperate controller (both with the 3.5mm jack). The one with the console has issues when pressing left ...ie it only registered 50% of presses unless I applied undue pressure.
The other one I bought was perfect. I've just exchanged the faulty one, got home and EXACTLY the same issue on another one....left on Dpad hardly works. GRRRR. So I'll have to exchange it again and hopefully get a better one. Sigh :*( (PS not covert forces,
just standard new 3.5mm one)!

Dudes. Just found out my Covert Forces controller has this problem too. thought it was my system this whole time... then i found this thread. Im gonna hang on to my controller... but it'd be nice to see a firmware update or something fix this issue.
