new XBOX one and can't connect to internet using wifi

Hi- Let me start by saying I am pretty technology challenged, but setting up the xbox seemed simple enough until I actually tried.... We put the xbox in our son's playroom in the basement. The modem is on main floor (one floor up). When setting up initially
it wants you to connect to internet using wifi (because we don't have hard wire in basement), but it won't ever connect. It can see the signal and it shows about 3 bars (The internet enabled tv connects to wifi no problem in the basement). We have comcast
internet (not for our tv). I chatted with comcast for several hours and their only solution was to tell me that I had to upgrade to a Wireless Gateway Modem which I said ok to, but that won't be available for several days. Is there any suggestions to get
this thing working in the meantime? I have a super unhappy little boy!

Can't connect to internet through wireless

Hi

I just bought my xbox yesterday,

I can't seem to connect to my internet through wifi I can only connect using an ethernet cable

Help?

Xbox live keeps disconnecting

Wifi still 30 feet away I also having proplem connect Xbox and my internet my wifi green not blinking and my wifi in other room and still having proplem connect to the internet I using d link router.

Tell them you DO NOT want their gateway , the are terrible for gaming and they will charge you monthly for it , buy your own modem ONLY and a separate router (netgear is good for xbox) ....and I would if at all possible , CAREFULLY drill a hole and run
cable , I have run MILES of it and its no big deal , a much MUCH more stable connection imo...in the meantime , can you move the xbox up to the main floor just to see if it will connect? ...also reset your modem and router , it SHOULD still be able to connect
, does it ask for your wi fi password?

As Bimnog says I would move it closer to the main floor just to see if it is in fact a weak signal causing the issue. Do you get any kind of error message after entering the password that might indicate why it is not connecting?

A straight cable modem and a good gaming router is definitely the best solution for the XBOX One.

I agree with what everyone said, but if you can run CAT5 or CAT 6 network wire and drill a hole in a wall somewhere, this would allow for more stable connections: You may be having problems with the signal, sometimes being closer to the Modem/router gives
you the best setup.

WiFi Direct and standard WiFi are two different things. Hooking up other devices to your Xbox One using WiFI Direct shouldn't have any impact on your WiFi Internet connection.

Make sure your xbox is within range, and ensure you type in the proper network passcode. See if your xbox can connect to the internet with a network cable. If this is a new xbox, and it can't connect to your wifi, I would exchange it for a replacement.

Well, the xbox one uses WiFi direct to connect while the Xbox 360 uses other technology.

In short, the design of the Xbox One and the WiFi hardware card on the console has been problematic for many as far as controller connection. My response is, do what works best and maybe consider re-arranging the room and rooms adjacent so that any WiFi
interference is eliminated entirely. Also consider plugging in the xbox one vs. using a WiFi internet connection.
