new xbox, free month of gold, how?

bought yesterday, skipped setting up my billing just to play. I can't find how to sign up for the free trial now. I've created a new live account but haven't been prompted...help please

You only get the one month of Gold for free when you make a new account on the Xbox.

Since you already had an account, you will not get the free month of Gold, sorry.

 

When you create a new account and it asks if you want to join Live you have to continue with that. When it gives you the options to purchase gold you should have an option to say not now, or something like that and it should then prompt you for the free
trial. You do have to enter a payment method to get the free trial and it will start auto-renewal.

 

Thanks but unfortunately that's not working - it's also the method I'd read elsewhere butnot working in my case. Either going through settings/subscriptions or on the front page of tiles - go gold today - I enter it, says xbox better with gold, continue,
2 choices for membership: 12months $60, 1month $10, i have the options: use a code, no thank you. pressing no thank you brings me to the store.

I will go gold, but I wouldn't mind the 1 month free...

 

Once you've created the account you can't go back and get the trial. So choosing those options will only show you the options to purchase gold.

 

well that's no fun... factory reset+new gamer id?

 

You don't necessarily need to factory reset, you just have to create a new account.

 

I did create a new account, I think... sorry, bit new to this and thanks for help. I went up to the top left gamer account selection and created a new one based off another @outlook.com address, but still no prompt. is this the correct method?

 

As long as you're creating it on the console it should give you the option for the trial. Unfortunately I'm not sure why it's not asking you for it again. Usually the only reason would be if all of the trials had been used (you can only use them on 3 accounts).

 

yeah, it's weird. used xbox's before but first time owning. created 2 gamer tags so far to try to fix this, thinking I'll just go ahead and reset it/another new gamer tag and hopefully it'll work!
