New Xbox Elite Console will not power on with controller

Hi there,

Posting here as I feel this is my last resort and hoping someone from Microsoft Support will see this and knows what can be done. Do they even check these forums? Don't know but maybe someone else can help if they don't..

One week ago on 2nd December I picked up my shiny new Xbox One Elite console that I had waited for on pre-order for several weeks. Within the first day the issues started.

The issue: After the console has been off for at least an hour or more, in standby mode (sleep) or completely off the system will not power back on from the controller.

I have to then power the system on from the Xbox power button but it will still not connect to the controller, even after trying to rebind using the connect buttons on both the Xbox and controller.

The only thing at this point that will get the system working again is if I Hard Reset the power on the console (hold the power button for 5 seconds to cycle the power) then it goes through the long boot process and finds the controller again.

Something has to be wrong! I don't see this as working as intended nor do I want to go through this lengthy process every single time I try to power on the system to enjoy a game.

From the 4th - 6th December I made three different support calls all to Microsoft on this single issue. During the calls we went through all the standard trouble shooting you would expect. Such as power cycles and the like. In every case
the power cycle remedied the issue at the time but only until the system was left off again for more than one hour then the issues would return.

Both console and controller have the latest updates installed. The system is connected directly to the wall (no surge protector) and there is no interference from microwaves, cordless phones, routers etc.

On the third support call after going through all the trouble shooting again the operator issued a reference number to have the console swapped over for another unit by the retailer. Thankfully the retailer had another "spare" console in stock and was able
to meet the request with no drama.

Got the new replacement unit home on 7th Dec and set it all back up, updates for both controller and system etc and the same issue is still occurring...

Called Microsoft support again for the forth time now and was pretty much offered another replacement again right off the bat but was not sure that was going to solve the issue if I had just received two units one after the other being affected by the same
issue. So we went through some additional trouble shooting again and did a full hard reset (holding power button for 15 sec, waiting a minute then holding it for another 5 sec and waiting a further minute). Again this fixed the issue at the time but only came
back yet again after being powered down for more than an hour.

The operator I spoke to said there was little more that could be done as it was very unclear as to if it was software or hardware related. I was given a reference number and asked to call back again if its still an issue which I will be doing soon.

The retailer said they have had no other consoles returned or heard anything else of this issue. So am I extremely unlucky here to get two bad consoles or is this a wide spread issue either hardware or software related that all the replacement consoles in
the world wont fix?

This whole experience has completely sucked the fun out of purchasing a new console and I am starting to regret the whole purchase decision altogether. I just want a working system as its expected to work.

Would appreciate anyone that can help or shed any light on this issue at all.

XBOX ONE ELITE Controller - Not Syncing - Not Connecting

Brand New 1 day old Elite Xbox One - Controller will not sync.

Elite controller is updated, it received the latest update.

Xbox One Elite console received the new update.

Replaced batteries (Used 8 sets of batteries, Duracells and Energizers)

Plugged in USB - Works when plugged in, unplug after a few minutes and light just flashes indefinitely and will not sync.

Tried syncing via sync button on console and controller.

Power Cycled Console numerous times.

Unplugged console numerous times.

FACTORY RESET the Elite Console 5 times.....

So far this is a total disappointment so far! $500 console and the *** controller won't sync!

Was just on Major Nelson's website and found news of a new Elite Xbox One console. It will have a 1tb Hybrid SSD drive and it will come with an elite controller.

Hello, Have you tried to reconnect it? If not you might want to try that

 

Reconnect? The controller to the console?

Yes as stated above I try to re-bind the controller to the Xbox by pressing both binding buttons on both the Xbox and the controller. It still does not resolve the issue until the system has been hard reset by holding the power button for 5 sec.

At the point both are connected correctly again so not sure now trying to "reconnect" them again would be of any help.

If I am missing something here please explain it, thanks.

That's strange , and getting 2 bad ones would be against the odds ...but not unheard of I guess ...not sure what it would prove but I would hook up the usb cable to the controller and use it a little , then shut off as you normally do leaving the cable connected
, then after enough time has past , see if it will power on that way...

 

Yes, just received my new X Box One and am having the EXACT same issue. This turkey will only and will ONLY connect to the controller AFTER a HARD RESET.

It will connect with a cable but disconnects when cable is disconnected.

I have tried with two(2) remote connected and it occurs with BOTH.

I have the latest updates on both the system and controller

...so what is being done to fix this.

I was also wanting to start the system with the remote controller like the 360 and this is or is not an option?? I will also let support know.

Strange indeed Microsoft...fit it.

 

A new update with just fixes is out sometime today, I had this problem in the preview program we got the up date last week and it seems to be fixed had no issues since the update.
