    New Xbox disc tray will not open, among other things...


    Just went through the setup process, downloaded the update(after several disconnects during the process), and now I go to play a game the disc tray will not open.

    Ive tried using both the button the console and by clicking "insert disc" in the menu

    What do I do?

    Disc tray.

    I just got a brand new Xbox 1 s and no matter what I do I cannot get the disc tray open. Someone please help me I spent 400 dollars on this thing and its really frustrating. I haven't put any games in it so far and It won't open the disc tray. I also understand
    that some people can't get the disc tray back open after putting in a disc and I have not yet done so. I have not been able to open the tray since I opened the box for the Xbox. That last part was redundant.

    REPEAT FOREVER AND EVER

    Basically, the xbox is ALWAYS in a state of opening the disc tray. As soon as the tray finishes closing, the xbox opens it again. It will never even begin to try and read the disc that you slip in.

    I got this xbox on black Friday last year.

    I'm in Korea right now so I'm not shipping the stupid thing back.

    No *** answers please, I don't have time for them. A *** answer would be something like "check the grounding" or "clean the touch sensor."

    There is no fancy powered cup holder on this model. You just slid the disk into the slot. I never did like this design but there it is. When you press the eject button on the right it will eject the disk. There is also on the left side of the console
    an emergency eject button that you will need to have a stiff wire paperclip to reach. There are pictures of it somewhere you can google that, (oh right Microsoft site better make that BING it.).

    Disc 1 broken?

    My xbox used to do the same thing. It seemed like it played some discs fine, but others i found myself opening and closing the disc tray repeatedily. Maybe try that? It gets annoying opening it 2-3 times to play a game but it works. If not call microsoft
    and see what they say. You may just end up having to pay to get the disc tray replaced, still better then buying a new 360. Good Luck.

    Try to follow the steps described here :

    1: Turn off the machine (with no disc in).

    2: Turn on the machine by opening the disc tray.

    3: Physically force the disc tray back in with force. Not so much that you snap the thing or knock it off its runners, but enough that the motors stop retracting the tray.

    The tray should stop ajar for a few seconds before the machine composes itself and continues to retract the tray.

    4: Reboot the Xbox and the drive should function normally.
