  1. New Wireless N Network Adapter not recognised by XBox 360 on second use

Hello, last week I bought a new Wireless N Networking Adapter for an XBox 360. I connected it to the XBox 360's rear USB port, and it worked straight away. It was used for about half an hour, including signing in to XBox live, and viewing videos with the
    YouTube application.

The next day, the XBox was turned on and reported that no wireless adapter was connected. I tried unplugging and plugging in the adapter, powering down the Xbox and powering it back up, and the other USB ports, and noticed that the light on the adapter
was not coming on when connected to any of the ports. I tried plugging it into both USB ports on my laptop, with the same result.

I presume from the troubleshooting information relating to the adapter that I've read on this site, that it's probably a hardware failure. I am hoping to get a working adapter, but it was the last one in the shop where I bought it, and I didn't find any
other places that stock them. Is it possible, if it is a hardware problem, that a replacement could be obtained directly from Microsoft?

While I am posting, there are a couple of other issues which I would like to please bring to the attention of the site maintainers:

    1. I was unable to successfully register the adapter using this site, as it informs me the serial number is invalid. The input box for the serial number restricts the number of digits entered to two less digits than are in the adapter's serial number (as
printed on the box and the adapter). I tried once leaving off the first two digits, and again leaving off the last two digits, but was informed that both were invalid serial numbers.
    2. I tried to chat to Microsoft support three times. Twice on Thursday 15/4/2015, and once today. None of the chats was successful.
    • The first chat on 15/4/2015 at approximately 12.43 am was started and I received a message from Dhavelyn asking me to describe the problem I was having (although I note that I had entered a description of the problem on the previous screen before starting
the chat). Before I could finish retyping the description of the problem into the chat window, the window displayed the message "Chat not initialized." from "System". It appeared to redisplay the same message any time I entered another message, and after
some minutes there was no further response.
    • The second chat on 15/4/2015 was started soon after the first one, and I received a message from James. From there it proceeded in the same way as the above.
    • I copied today's third attempt from the chat window. The second "Chat not initialized" message was displayed when I typed something.

    A solid red light

Black with two aerials (wireless N adaptor): The adaptor is not recognised. Try plugging the adaptor into a USB port on the front of your console.

  3. New Internet Connection Won't Wirelessly Connect Online With Xbox

Alright so I had to do some research, I found out your new Virgin Media Super Hub works Wireless with 802.11a,b,g,and n capable in 2.4GHz band plus wireless N in 5GHz band and the Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter you have it should work just not with
802.11n. So I would say try upgrading your Wireless Network Adapter to the newest "Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter" and then try connecting online to Xbox Live.

Hey there, ShelteredBag683! I'm very sorry to see any issues with your wireless adapter! You've done a good portion of what we would suggest here. The one thing I don't see is if you have tried that adapter on another console. If it doesn't work there, then
you definitely should have it replaced.

I suggest first reaching out to the retailer you purchased it from. They may be able to get you a replacement ordered and replace it for you. However, if they are unable to do that, I highly suggest you
contact us via our phone team. Since you are having troubles with chat, the link I've provided will give you your locale's phone number and hours of operation.

Please post back what you're able to sort out! We'd like to make sure you're fully resolved, and posting back will help us confirm that. New Wireless N Network Adapter not recognised by XBox 360 on second use :)

    Connecting to 5 ghz band?

I would recommend the external Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter (black).

Using this adapter will disable the internal wireless of your Xbox 360 S.

Using the built in wireless or dongle on the 4gb Xbox 360 slim?

    Hello,

Xbox 360 S console: The Xbox 360 S console’s built-in Wi-Fi uses the 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) frequency band. If your router is broadcasting using another frequency, your Xbox 360 S console cannot connect to your wireless network. Check your router
documentation to find out how to set your router to broadcast at 2.4 GHz. If you want to connect using the 5 GHz frequency band, you will need to add the black Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter to your Xbox 360 S console.

Xbox 360 S console and black adapter: The Xbox 360 S console and the black Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter cannot use the 802.11n wireless protocol in combination with WEP or WPA TKIP encryption. If your router requires WEP or WPA encryption,
your console will try to connect to your wireless network using a slower wireless protocol such as 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11a.

Use WPA2 if possible: The best wireless encryption to use with your Xbox 360 console is WPA2 with AES encryption.

Wireless N router and a gray adapter: If you have an 802.11n or N type router and a gray Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter, configure your N type router to use a mixed mode; broadcast using a combination of wireless standard N and either B, G, or
    A.
Internal WiFi is wireless N, the only advantage to having the black network adapter is to connect using a 5GHZ frequency.
