    New updates and now XBox 360 250G hard drive reads unformatted


    I booted up my machine and it had to do a system update. Took a while, seemed like a big one. Anyway, after the update and auto-restart, I booted up destiny and it needs to update. It does so, then suddenly the game says I need more hard disk space. "At
    least 0 K more space required" -weird. Look under system and it says I have an unformatted drive.

    I looked under support and followed the recommendation to pull out the hard drive, power up and down, then put back in and power up, but to no avail. How can this be resolved?

    Xbox won't reformat

    hi, so I am aware that everyone is having issues from the new updates but so far I haven't seen the solution to mine. I update the xbox a little while ago (October?) and the hard drive has since read "unformatted". I have the original s consol with the 4g
    internal hard drive, that is it. I had a flash drive plugged in the xbox during the update and since then it will only read the flash drive as the hard drive. I cannot use the xbox without the flash drive plugged in. I have followed the processe Microsoft
    gives you to reformat the hard drive and it continues to read unformatted. Help please!

    Xbox 360 Slim being detected as "Unformatted" shortly after system update 2014

    I am having the same problem. I have a 250g hard drive in a brand new 360 slim. Ever since the most recent update it has on and off appeared as unformatted. I formatted it and lost all my saved games and to make things worse, it has happened again. My profile
    and all saved games gone. Clearly it's not my hard drive.. Microsoft has clearly messed up their update. Most likely to make you buy another hard drive or just upgrade to the One. I'm done with Microsoft at this point.

    Did you try formatting the drive through the Xbox Dashboard? Did you get any errors? Did you try formatting the drive through the PC or another Xbox console with an Xbox Transfer Cable? Any errors with that?

    Hi there,

    Small correction on the post made by NMXU. Do not try to format the hard drive via a PC, that is not supported and could be considered tampering etc and besides that it will result in several other issues.

    Please see the steps on this link regarding the unformatted issue and what to try and do:

    support.xbox.com/.../hard-drive

    If all fail please follow the steps on that same link on how to order a replacement hard drive.

    Side note: The initial issue is likely that the hard drive is failing, causing the console to think an update is needed

    What about all of the games I have downloaded using the Games For Gold? will I still be able to get these back?

    Yeah, re-formatting failed. All has failed.

    Is it really my only option to fork out a bunch more money for a new Hard Drive?

    Same here. I have a 250g HDD that's is Microsoft branded!! And I says it is unformatted. I have not had any problem until this update. I have a lot of game that I played for on my hard drive along with items that I don't want to lose. This update affected
