New to Xbox live & need answers

So I've never used Xbox live, never needed it for anything until now.

1. Do I need xbox live to get updates for my games - do I need the paid version or can I go free?

2. If I need the paid version, what are the costs? I've looked around but can't seem to locate the costs & whatever.

Just in case, I have dsl internet (10 mbits download & 5 mbits upload - can't go any higher because of the area I live in) and I have the white xbox 360 (no idea what the model name is).

1. You do need to be connected to Live in order to download updates. It doesn't matter if you have gold (paid version) or silver (free).

2. Gold is really only needed in order to play online or to take part in any special gold member deals. It's generally cheaper to buy gold as a prepaid card from other retailers, but pricing can depend on the length of subscription you purchase. $9.99/month,
$19.99/3 months, and $60 for 12 months.

Games with Gold is available to all Xbox Live Gold members. To download free games you just need to be an Xbox Live Gold member at the time of redemption of any Games with Gold offering.

if you have to create an new account thats it you need to create an new account

remeber though things do change but it depends on the issue

if you are expecting free repairs no not going to happen

we send you to xbox support for requesting a repair order that is a verified and the only solution

if you are expecting free downloads because you don't live in an xbox live supported country nope international laws say otherwise

That is not a website created by Microsoft or Xbox, sorry. As I stated earlier a lot of these sites are very inaccurate. If the system says the tag is not available it is not available. There is nothing that can be done. Try finding other gamertag names
that might be available and use the change gamertag feature on your console to check them. Good luck.
