New to xbox live, lots of confusion

I recently started using xbox live and I have got a lot of questions in the process

First of all I registered to the free trial, it asked for credit card info and I provided it but never want to be charged on that credit card because I am able to get the membership at much cheaper price. I followed the instruction to remove my subscription. but
at one point the cancel button was disabled for some reason. I now only see "buy xbox gold" and "buy xbox music" option at my subscription page. Does it mean I am no longer suscribed?

Also when I tried the register for gold using my promo code I got stuck. It needs a billing address but it only let me input Canada address. I used to live in Canada and now I live in the states. I went to my Microsoft account and tried to change my location
to united states but in the xbox it doesn't get updated and still prompt for Canadian address. How would I fix that? I DO NOT have an Canadian address currently

How do you feel about for honors new characters?

There is a lot of confusion about these new characters. How do you guys feel about them? Opinions, facts, etc. Any info about these characters are welcome.

There's a lot of confusion going on in this thread.

 

I was able to redeem my code and get gold membership using the xbox live webpage on my PC. Xbox seem to show that it know I am gold now because it shows up on my settings/account page

However, how come I still don't have a way to download the free game that come with gold?

 

Fist off, AssertdTie8790, I would like to welcome to to the Xbox Family, and to welcome you in getting Xbox Gold. To be able to download the free game that comes out for gold members each month you go to the game marketplace tab and their should be an option
somewhere in there to be able to see the Xbox Live Gold Free Games, or you can go here. <www.xbox.com/.../games-with-gold> and be able to download the games from your pc while signed
on the Xbox website with your GT (gamertag) and once you download it from the store on your pc, it will be installed next time your Xbox is started or if it is currently running, the download will be started immediately.

the account you are using here, still shows as Silver, als be aware that any trial gold membership will not give you the option to get the Games for Gold games for free, only a paid subscription will give you that offer.
