New To The Next Gen Scene

I've never been able to afford to keep up with the latest consoles and games often opting for a budget gaming pc to play MMO's. I owned a 360 a few years after it had been out and come down in price.

However this time around I wanted to be in front of the line for the next generation of consoles.

I chose the XBO because of its media capability, this help justify the expensive purchase as I could use it in my every day life and not just for gaming. However this whole resolution and FPS thing does make me feel a little bit annoyed.

I do not claim to have any knowledge about resolutions and frames per seconds or even graphics, but surly if you are going to build and produce a "next gen" console should'nt these things come standard? I've seen things banded around the internet that 1080p
is an 8 year old engine and that we should be looking to the holy 4k res.

Now I understand for £450 your not going to get a super hyper mega gaming machine but if the PS4 can hit 1080p then why cant the XBO?

I understand that resolution is not the defining thing about gaming graphics and in the grand scale of things isn't that big of a deal but its getting more and more annoying when you see the latest releases such as "theif 1080p ps4 900p xbo" that seems to
be setting a trend for most games.

So is it just because the developers haven't fully figured out how to optimize the super fast Eram or will this continue to be the case?

Either way I will continue to play and enjoy my new XBO but it would be nice to have these concerns addressed by someone up in Microsoft towers.

Cult of the Familiar: The State of Sequels

Sequels sell.....having sequels so early for Next gen is to tempt and encourage series fans to buy next gen consoles to see the game series they like all "new and next gen".

There is a room for both long term series and new fresh IPs, but gamers trust what they know, and with next gen its that trust they need to take with them into Next Gen

who knows, it would be a moronic belief that neither Sony or MS have the Next "next" Gen Console being worked on now behind the scenes, but 2014...a good year and time frame for the next line up of consoles to start being thought of at E3.

 

They need to get use to the system they are working on and can 100 percent guarantee games will be 1080p very soon.look at Forza and fifa proves it can be done

 

Again, you miss the point Browny. The whole "resolutiongate" is not about Ryse, Forza, Killzone. It is about multiplats having differences across the next-gen consoles. The SAME game running differently. Halo Spartan Assault is not putting the same graphics
strain as Infamous.

Resolutiongate is about AC4, BF4, Tomb Raider, COD Ghosts, MGS5, Thief etc.

The esram may have alot of bandwith but its only 32MB, fitting a 1920x1080(1080p) framebuffer with such a small amount of memory requires alot of specialist programming and dev's/pubs arint gonna put in that much work into porting their products to a system
with a lower userbase, see the WiiU and Ps3 for example. It's not worth their time/energy and money to do so and the lack of leadership outta MSFT makes dev's worry if they waste time doing it, will MSFT just cut the xbox latter on.

It's not only the hardware but MSFT lack of vision for the Xbox.

 

Microsoft has proven it can produce beautiful games like Forza in 1080p and 6FPS

But that argument is now surly redundant due to titan fall running on 720p?

There must be some logic behind Microsoft's move to use less ram but make it super fast, otherwise why do it?

Will we continue to see new game releases continue to infuriate loyal Xbox one fans with typically lower screen resolution's? Although as stated time and time again resolution is not a defining factor of how good a game plays it doesnt help that the lack
of resolution is being shoved in everyone face

Although this may be a very immature way for the Sony fan boys to hammer the XBO you cant help but feel annoyed at the lack of vision from Microsoft, I mean how could they not see this coming?

 

If you only have one of the two consoles in question (not due to fanboyism, just financial/console exclusive preferential reasons), and you're not sitting them side by side to compare, and they both look awesome to the eye of the beholder... Why does any
of this "resolutiongate" matter?

 

After looking around discussion thread about the Xbox one and PS4, I have to say this has answered most of my questions and concerns.

Well, for starters, the PS4 is pretty much just a PC in a box. There's no innovation, everything, including their dev tools are off the shelf. It was obviously designed in a hurry as well, there's a single point of failure in that fan, and I've seen what

Blu-ray eventually won through superior support, features and ability. We know that support on the major side where it actually counts is in parity (don't give me semantics, Joe Sixpack only cares that Madden/COD is available). Features, the X1 is going
to win, and most developers feel ability is in parity. So that's the real question isn't it? Can Sony keep fanboy fury going long enough to make enough deals to achieve a better margin of consequence?

Sony is not a software company, which is one of the reasons why they're buying off the shelf here. Why do you think they got hacked? Minimal investment on PSN infrastructure.

 

Here we go: apparently everybody forgot about tiled resources again.

6GB of textures fits in 32MB of superfast RAM. So PS4 will have 1080p and its notoriously wobbly FPS, and we will have 900p-1080p 60fps with far superior textures.

 

Also titanfall runs at 900p 60fps (full game), beta is 792p. I'm beginning thing you are a troll.

 

I'm fortunate to have both the Xbox one and the Playstation 4. I have played mulit plats on both systems and I cannot tell the difference. I have both systems connected to a Sony XBR55X900A 4K ULTRA HD TV. Last generation the Ps3 also had more gpu power
and was ultimately a more powerful system, but the 360 dominated. So I can't figure out why people are still annoyed by resolution. As the life cycle of the Xbox one continues all games will be at 1080p and 60 fps, as they develop better code for the system.
I don't see what people are expecting from a 400-500 dollar machine. If you were to purchase a PC you would pay a lot more for comparable stats

So from the information I've gathered from around the net, The PS4 as shown above is just a PC with Sony slapped on it. When the time came to make a new console they just took bits and pieces from other platforms that work well and crammed it into a console
they called there own.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that at all!

But XBO are the ones that wanted to think outside the box. A new type of ESRAM, cloud servers (which have yet to be proved worth it) Kinetic with voice and gesture controls.

I'm by no means a fan boy but after doing some digging I am very happy with my purchase of a truly next gen console that will not only play great games with great graphics but also integrate with my living room providing hours more entertainment and functionality.
I believe that once the developers get to grips with the new hardware we will see 1080p 60fps as the gold standard for the majority of games. Who knows maybe even 4k
