Router port problems please help?.

Hi all, As some of you may of seen lately i have been having trouble connecting to freinds parties and games on MW3. So i called up Xbox support and they claim the problem is some ports on my router are closed which need to be open this is what is preventing
me from doing as i desire. Now xbox understandably claim they cant fix the problem and SKY even though they provide these routers also claim they cant fix the problem they insist i need to call up the company that create the routers who are based in France
somewhere as im sure you understand i dont wish to do this. Does anyone know who can fix it? or any easy solution of solving this please to say its annoying me now is an understatement.

Have you called your ISP support dept. And discussed the issue? The ISP could be having some issues in your area. It could also be an issue with the new gateway. Did they provide you the gateway? Or did you buy it from a third party? If you bought it from
a third party... It may not be fully supported by the ISP. Also if you are connecting wirelessly.... Try connecting wired and see what happens to see if that resolves the issue. If it does try changing you wireless Chanel on the gateway to Chanel 11 and see
what happens with the connection.

5. I called my ISP and we did a trace route to Xbox live and the ping kept increasing each time. Not sure what to think. They said they will have their network team contact Microsoft but I doubt anything will be done.

Greetings Genesis!

Did you use your computer, or your console to do a traceroute?

The ping WILL increase, as the message travels through each hop, to an endpoint destination. It has to do with the distance between each connection point/hop.

I made it sound simple, but there's a lot more involved, beside the distance.

Could you restore your Xbox network settings to factory defaults (to issue new IP configuration from the DHCP server).

Go to Xbox Network settings and select Configure Network. Select the Additional settings tab and Restore network settings to factory defaults.

Turn off your console.

Access your router's web-utility interface and delete any entries you've made in Port Forwarding and, or the DMZ of your router.

Make sure UPnP is ticked enable.

Go to firewall settings of your router and disable IP flood detection (if present) and disable the firewall (this would be the software firewall. Your router is still the hardware firewall, rececting, or will drop packets from an inbound connection that
has no binding, to an endpoint on your LAN).

Save/Apply your configuration and reboot your gateway.

Connect your console with a wired solution (Ethernet cable) and go to Xbox Networ settings. Select Test Xbox Live Connection.

Now, do what you normally do and let us know how that goes.

7. Hi Taidara,

I did all of the above and unfortunately nothing has changed.

Could this be a problem with the gateway itself? I've seen similar threads concerning this modem/router specifically with people having same problems. I didn't have any problems before I got switched to that one by my ISP.

May I ask, do you connect more than one Xbox in your household?
Could this be a problem with the gateway itself?
That's possible.

Before you phone your ISP, try connect your console at a friends house/different network, to see if the problem persists.

Keep us posted!

9. Hey, Prodigy. I see you've done a lot of troubleshooting already, so hopefully I don't repeat something you've done! It seems that a similar Motorola has some

known issues that seem to be the same as you describe. If you can, let's try to change those settings that are listed on that page and see if that helps you out. You can call up your internet provider to have them help you change those if you aren't comfortable
doing it yourself.
